Description mercergeoinfo 2015-02-04 09:12:22 UTC
Copy/Pasting 77 rows by 16 columns from an xls into a new spreadsheet resulted in 1048576 rows being created, all but the first 77 empty. This slows down performance somewhat.

Hi @mercergeoingo, thanks for reporting.

Sorry but no a bug, 1048576 is the row limit and doesn't influence the performance except you use it.

Open a new spreadsheet and 1048576 rows are there with 1024 columns.

Well, try moving a column. In OSX this just doesn't work, Libre Office beachballs due to memory.

set back to unconfirmed
please retest and give an update of the bug's current status with latest LibO releases.
Comment 4 Alex Thurgood 2015-06-23 08:22:27 UTC
@mercergeoinfo : please provide a test Excel document that we can use to attempt to reproduce, otherwise it will be virtually impossible to confirm.

What does your Excel document contain ? images, links, multiple cell calculations ?
How do you copy into Calc ? Is the Excel document opened in Calc or Excel ?

Please provide detailed, reproducible information.

Setting to NEEDINFO, please reset to UNCONFIRMED once this information has been provided.

In LibreOffice 4432, OSX 10.10.3, I copied 80 rows by 17 columns of number data from an Excel sheet into a new Calc document.

No noticeable slowness.

If I cut and paste a column of that data within the Calc sheet to another column, no noticeable slowdown either.

I don't see how to move a column with the mouse. This doesn't even appear to be possible in Excel 15.10.1, so please explain what you mean.

You also don't mention which version of LO you are using, please indicate this in your reply.

Contacted by bug reporter, who can not reproduce for lack of machine with LO - closing as invalid.

@mercergeoinfo : if you do manage to obtain a reproducible scenario where you see this problem again, please report back here or file a new bug report with the relevant details.
