Description Frank Dennler 2015-02-28 11:08:16 UTC
Deinstalling older LibreOffice for new one virgin installation failed.
Some stuff still exists under "C:\Program Files\LibreOffice 4" which belong to wrong user SYSTEM. I cannot remove those files unless booting in secure mode.

We will assume you are on Windows, looking at the path listed. What version of Windows?

Did you run the uninstall "Run as Administrator"? Necessary on recent Windows with UAC to assure complete removal from GAC and the Windows registry.

Running Windows 7, and deinstalled with uninstall programs from control panel.
2 directories still left under "C:\Program Files\LibreOffice 4", belonging to user SYSTEM: program and presets
Impossible to take ownership, even as administrator : unknown original user, or so what.
It is also impossible to see the content of the 2 directories : access denied.
Like I said, I had to reboot in SAFE mode to get rid of the "LibreOffice 4" tree.
and then reboot normaly.
Before re-installing the actual version of LibreOffice, i did some cleanup in Registery, OpenOffice 3.x and LibreOffice 4 keys.
Now it is possible to browse program and presets directories which belongs to CREATOR OWNER with only "special permissions", even TrustedInstaller has not full permissions on those folders.

It would be nice if next time the uninstall works fine.
Or may be I have to install LibreOffice under another directory ...

Thank you for your support.

As a signed Microsoft Windows packaged installer--ownership by System and presence of the Trusted Installer account is normal.

I just did an uninstall of the 4.4.1.2 package with a non-privledged user account and UAC prompt, the C:\Program Files (x86)\LibreOffice 4\presets folder was left behind--but suspect that was because during an uninstall I was prompted to but elected not to shutdown FireFox.

The folder was empty, and it was simply removed along with the LibreOffice 4 directory with UAC prompt for an Administrator credential. Other than that there was nothing abnormal with the removal.

Did you by chance have QuickStart running prior to uninstall?

@Andras, any thoughts?
Comment 4 Frank Dennler 2015-03-01 08:09:43 UTC
I have definitly not stopped Firefox during the deinstall.
And I also checked that Firefox has no plugin from LibreOffice at all.
I also use TuneUp Utilities and have disabled Quickstart for Startup performance speedup as recommanded, while I do not use LibreOffice every days.

If I re-encounter the same problems next time, I will reopen the Bug.

Thank you for your help.

After upgrading LibreOffice to 5.0.1, I found C:\Program Files\LibreOffice 4\program\ Tis directory cannot be deleted, nor accessed.
It is also impossible to display the owner of the directory.
Even change of ownership is denied.

The only way I found is booting in secure mode without any network access and remove it.

I hope it will be better with LibreOffice 5.x

I am using LibreOffice on Windows 7 Enterprise Edition 32 bits.
