simple example of bug

If I type "TRUE" into a blank cell, press return, then drag the bottom right corner of the cell down to copy the value to lower cells, there is no apparent problem in Calc, but if you save the workbook as .xlsx and open it in Excel (or read it via the xlrd package in python), then the lower cell is displayed as "TRUE" but the value is "2". If you drag further down, you get 3, 4, 5, etc. Obviously, the resulting cells should be boolean rather than integers.
Comment 1 js54434 2015-03-28 20:58:47 UTC
I should mention that when I've loaded in python using xlrd, I did that after loading the .xlsx file in Excel first and saving it (which I've had to do for an unrelated bug).

To clarify, I see error in your file but cannot reproduce from scratch.
Comment 4 Alex Thurgood 2015-04-01 08:16:00 UTC
Can not reproduce in Excel 15.8.1 on OSX 10.10.2 with the supplied document.

If I drag down cell A2, the cells beneath contain the numerical value 2 but display the string TRUE
Comment 5 Alex Thurgood 2015-04-01 08:17:28 UTC
Cell A1 contains the string VRAI (I have FR locale), and this is also what is displayed.
Comment 6 Alex Thurgood 2015-04-01 08:30:16 UTC
I also can't reproduce if i start from a blank Calc document, add the word TRUE, drag and fill down column A, save as XLSX, then re-open in Excel 15.8 and redrag and fill the rest of the column. In this particular case, I don't even see the value 2, in any cell.

So, there is something very specific happening here, and until we know what, it is going to be difficult/ impossible to confirm.

Which version of Excel did you save the file in at some stage, and for which OS ?
Comment 7 Alex Thurgood 2015-04-01 08:33:55 UTC
Setting NEEDINFO pending information which will enable a reproducible scenario. Once provided, please set back to unconfirmed.

Sorry for the delay, I got distracted. Here's the info:

Excel 2011

LibreOffice
Version: 4.3.5.2

This is on Mac OS 10.10.3.

Please could you test with LO 4.4.2? https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/
Thanks

I see the same behavior with LO 4.4.2.

Using your attachment 114428 [details], if I drag from A1 down and save & reload, I get TRUE all the way down as the result of the function =TRUE().
Not 2 as value. Excel displays the same.

Alex: in your comment 6, you said you added the word TRUE. Do you really mean a string instead of the function =TRUE() ?

This was just to test the other possibility, as the original poster didn't specify that a function was being used. However, my comment 4 used =TRUE()

In the TestTrue.xlsx file, when I open it in Excel 15.8 for Mac, I see two entries :

A1 contains the value VRAI, left justified
A2 contains the value TRUE, left justified. If I click on cell A2, I see that the actual integer value is '2'.

Dragging cell A2 down to cell A10 fills those cells with TRUE and the integer value '2'.

Correction, cell A1 value 'VRAI' appears centred
Comment 15 Alex Thurgood 2015-04-30 11:06:07 UTC
Excel tells me that cell A1 has a personalised number format of the following type :

"TRUE";"TRUE";"FALSE"

Given that 3 experienced QA members have been unable to reproduce this issue with a new sheet I am marking this as WFM. A couple things you can do:

1. Find out if you can create a brand new document with the same issue;
2. Test on 5.0.2.2 or later;
3. Reset your profile https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile
4. Go to the user mailing list to see if it's some formatting issue that is causing the problem

If all of this fails, please report back and push the bug to UNCONFIRMED again. It sitting here doing nothing is not helping anyone and no one can reproduce given the information provided as of now.

Thanks
