Description Yousuf Philips (jay) (retired) 2015-04-06 20:39:47 UTC
Steps:
1) Insert a 3d chart
2) In the chart elements selector drop down there will be entries for 'Chart' and 'Chart Wall'
3) Selecting either of them and pressing format selection brings up the 'Chart Wall' dialog.

Question: If they both open the 'Chart Wall' dialog, are one of these two entries redundant?

This isnt a regression as its the same in 3.3.0.

Reproducible with LO 4.4.1.2, Win 8.1
This seems also for me not to make sense. But I am not a specialist for these issues.

The LO Online Help also doesn't help and in particular it doesn't list "Chart"

@Cor, Stuart: Any thoughts on this?

No, they are not redundant. You see the difference, when you select the item from the drop-down-list and then use copy&paste to a Draw document.

You might consider it as error, that "Format Selection" is enabled, because "Chart" contains more than only "chart wall" but axis and data series and more, and therefore no single dialog for formatting exists.

Regina, thank you very much for your feedback! It helped me to understand it, but I personally still have some open questions/issues:
- Enhancement: It should be mentioned in the LO help.
- As you wrote I tried to copy it to Draw via selecting Chart Wall (after I changed the chart wall colour), but in Draw I only see the Y-Axis with some small artefact at the 0/0 point. Is this a bug?
- If I do:
Chart -> Format Selection -> change a colour for Area
Then it has the same effect as
Chart -> Format Selection -> change a colour for Area
By the way the dialog title shows in both cases Chart Wall.
I think this is a little bit irritating and not very intuitive for a non-experienced user what is the difference. After you explained it I understand what is the difference, but I am wondering whether there is maybe a better solution to make it clear and intuitive for users. Although, I have to admit that I have currently no idea/proposal how. I do not know if it would be intuitive to disable Format Selection for Chart (probably not?). Maybe another solution than a drop-down list what be another way, but I am really not sure. Maybe, in the long run somebody has a good idea, so that it is intuitive.

Talked about this issue in the design meeting and agreed on WFM.
