Interesting...let me take a look...
Looks like this is a cache problem...the thumbnail was stored by the older version. Just open it in the newer version of libo and save it - thumbnail should be fine. Yes, the thickness was changed on purpose to make it look better.

Muthu: Any idea on how it was decided to go with that particular thickness, which is 40% of the previous size.
As far as I remember: a) Users requested for it b) _other_ office suite provided that kind of a look and users were used to it. But, that said, this was the first set towards making it configurable - maybe we should request for the configurable chart thickness - feature (?)
