Description Yousuf Philips (jay) (retired) 2015-04-25 02:20:24 UTC
If you add the 'Fill Color' button (.uno:FillColor) to the 'Drawing Object Properties' toolbar in writer or the 'Line and Filling' toolbar in impress/draw, you will notice that if the 'Area Style / Filling' drop down (.uno:FormatArea) is set to anything else other than 'Color', then setting a color in 'Fill Color' will not work.

Users likely expect the color to be applied regardless the current filling type.

More ideally we switch UI control from color to gradient/bitmap/hatching- and that's exactly how the drawing toolbar works.

What we can do, alternatively to forcing the color fill type, is to disable the FillColor command if another type is applied. Both solution might fill wrong for some users and my take therefore is => WF.

However, since we have some duplicates on this topic it's perhaps better to force the color. More opinions welcome.

There is already a multitude of issue with the fill button..it's flawed. It really can't replace Draw and fillings toolbar.. So, add it back below the standard toolbar. It's even workable on my 11 laptop... while the sidebar and page panel together is a no go.. so with page panel I can't really access the sidebar (and shape and color settings)

So remove the fill buttons, and replace it with the toolbar..
And would also more consistent.. the tabbed toolbar has the draw in filling settings..
