if i change the thousands separator to ' it takes out the thousands separator check box, and displays it even if the number is only 3 digits. very annoying for regions which have a different settings.
Where did you changed the thousands separator to ' ? Could you attach test file? Thanks
Hi @raal I think it's done in Number-Cell format. When entering that character a literal it's introduced not a thousand separator. Check box is out while you are editing the format, after insert the user format with the green tick box, options for thousand and decimal are available again. In the Number-Cell format, it's possible to choose the language for the cell, as example selecting French (Switzerland) ' is the separator for thousands. For me not a bug. Please if you are not agree reopen it.
oooh - it is coupled to the language? this would work but i find this a poor workaround. eg in switzerland we have 4 languages + english is used in many offices, but the separators are coupled to the region not to the language used. i use the language setting to have text correction. i'd prefer to set english and swiss number formatting to the calc file to format every cell separate.
Sorry, maybe I don't understand, but what is the limitation for apply different styles with different languages at different cells?
haha, now than i know the workaround, i guess it is more a usability problem. but a big enough one to make me search for a solution and a bug tracker. just as an additional note, microsoft designed the regional settings quite well i find, an old screenshot here: http://www.helixtech.com.au/languagesettings.htm . they do not mix language and number formatting. the region is important only important for the defaults, like keyboard, number format, date format, time format, language. at the end of the day, most regional settings seem to glue on the region, except the language and the keyboard seems to more glue on a person. maybe because it is most difficult to learn when a person moves from one region to another.

Ok, so closing as NotABug because it works as designed. If you want to suggest an enhancement, please file a dedicated bug report with a clear and not ambiguous description of what you propose. Thank you for your understanding. Best regards. JBF
