Created attachment 115522 [details] Spreadsheet with screen copy of dialog boxes describes the bug Have a row with two input cells (B4 and C4), numeric values and one resulting cells (D4). Drag the formula in D4 down so that also D5 contains same formula with B5 and C5 as input. Could be simple operators. Now, select area B4:D4 and Copy, Ctrl+C. Select area B5:D5 and Paste Special. In the Paste Special dialog box, make sure that under Selection, only "Numbers" is checked. Click the OK button. First thing I don't expect: I get a warning message "Do you really want to overwrite the existing data". I don't expect this because there is no data to overwrite. I click "Yes" to this question anyway. Second thing I don't expect - This one turns the whole Paste Special function useless: The formula in cell D5 isn't a formula any more. It's contents is just the numeric value that equals the contents of D4 when the copy was taking place. Expected behaviour: Cell D5 should be untouched by the Paste Special operation, unless the option "Formulas" is also checked.
Hi Grobe, thanks for posting and the clear example. (In reply to Grobe from comment #0) > First thing I don't expect: I get a warning message "Do you really want to > overwrite the existing data". I don't expect this because there is no data > to overwrite. I click "Yes" to this question anyway. D5, that you selected, contains a formula.. > Second thing I don't expect - This one turns the whole Paste Special > function useless: > The formula in cell D5 isn't a formula any more. By the number value of what you copied. So IMO not a bug.
Hi Grobe, 1) As you can see, it's possible un-tick the overwrite box, so it doesn't appear again (An option in Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice calc). 2) It works properly, what you select in the paste special box is what paste from the source cells, and not what have destination cells. It's useful as example to paste only the values from one range to another or over itself. Or paste without the format from the source range. Maybe the help doesn't explain it too much right. For me not a bug, if a bug is somewhere is in the help. If you are not agree, reopen it.
