Description gmarco 2015-07-16 20:04:09 UTC
I don't know if this is a bug or the issue.
I already posted the question IN Q&A
http://ask.libreoffice.org/it/question/52951/aggiornamento-automatico-lo/
but nobody answered.

In the past I received a report automatically with which I was invited to update to LO vers.4.4.3.2, which I had regularly performed.
Then nothing. Rather, by checking "? -> Check for Updates" I obtained in response everything OK, "LibreOffice 4.4 is updated." For other reasons, however, I found that now that version had some time outdated and the current version was "4.4.4.3".

1st question: why no automatic alert?

I manually downloaded and installed the current version, but now, repeating "? -> Check for updates," I get again "LibreOffice 4.4 is updated."

2nd question: why an information so "uninformed" and "misleading"?
why not say "4.4.4.3" instead of "4.4" ?
Thanks.

check for updates screenshot

so basically you are complaining that while being on 4.4.3.2 the update check did not alert you that 4.4.4.3 was available...

I don't reproduce that (see attached screenshot) so I suspect that by the time you performed that check the 4.4.4.3 release was not officially released yet.

so I mark this report as RESOLVED WORKSFORME

feel free to revert status if when 4.4.5.2 will be officially releases (first week of august) the update check of your currently installed 4.4.4.3 will fail to display the new available version

OK, Tommy, I'll check next update, but allow me to point out:
I manually updated to 4.4.4.3 on July 5 and that version was already officially available from time to install and updated on July 5 and the version that was already officially available from time to install and suggested to install about another bug.
How your screenshot is so different from mine? See my attachment as well as it appears to me today still.

your screenshot is different since you are now using 4.4.4 which is the latest official release

the 4.4.5 is not yet available so when you check for updates you don't find anything to upgrade to.

my screenshot was obtained on a 4.4.3 release and correctly suggested to upgrade to a newer available release which is 4.4.4

in a few days 4.4.5 will be out and then the update check of 4.4.4 will alert you that a new releases is available

Tommy, excuse my insistence, but on July 2, when I was still using version 4.4.3.2, checking for updates, LO answered me ... see attachment.

4.4.5.2 final will be released in a few days.
let's wait until then and let's see what happens with the update check

just restestd now that LubI 4.4.5.2 is officially out...

if you do an update check with 4.4.3.2 you receive an alert that 4.4.4.2 is available...

if you do an update check with 4.4.5.1 it says you are already up to date...

basically in either case it seems that the systems fails to inform you that the newest 4.4.5.2 is out and still consider the 4.4.4.2 as the latest available

so I suppose the same happened whene 4.4.4.2 was out and gmarco had 4.4.3.2 and did not receive an update notification.

reverting status to NEW

CC'ing cloph to see if he can take a look at this one.

YES Tommy, 4.4.5 has been released but I received no alert and, looking at chech for update, I still see the previous reply already attached.

it's intentional that the update check is not made available immediately after a release.

anyway, pointing to 4.4.5 is now enabled.

OK, it is intentional, but personally, checking for updates, I'd rather see 4.4.5 instead of 4.4 up to date.

screenshot update check

Ohh, this is a real good info !!!
Comment 13 gmarco 2015-10-19 20:51:01 UTC
I withdraw my "Ohh" because the problem is still the same: I am 4.4.5.2 while a new verion is available since some time but, checking for the updates, I keep getting "LibreOffice 4.4 is updated.".
Nevertheless someone, in this forum about an old malfunction not yet resolved, ask me to update to 5.0.
Traditionally I prefer to await the official request.
What can you say?
Comment 14 tommy27 2015-10-20 03:47:34 UTC
if you are on 4.4.x you won't receive 5.0.x update notifications until the 5.0.x branch reaches the "stable" status which will be probably around 5.0.4 release, in the meantime while 5.0.x is still in a "fresh" status you'll get notifications only about 4.4.x releases.

if you are already on 5.0.x you will instead get notification about any new 5.0.x releases.

this is an intended behaviour, setting back status to FIXED

if you wanna already upgrade to 5.0.x you are free to do it.
anyway I suggest to wait a few more weeks since 5.0.3 will be released soon.

Hello Tommy, very good clarification!
So, as I prefer to use a stable version, I have no problem awaiting for.
Then I cannot actually comply with the request to update.
Thanks.
