Description Yousuf Philips (jay) (retired) 2015-08-31 15:58:39 UTC
In Impress/Draw, there is a non-modal dialog at Tools > Color Replacer that has a feature tooltiped as 'pipette' that will allow a user to pick a color from their document and this feature would be useful to be integrated into the sidebar next to old and new color controls, as well as being integrated into the new color picker dialog, if it is possible as the custom color button in the dialog opens a modal color pick dialog.

Setting to NEW.

Hi Yousuf,

not sure, if we mean the same thing: It would be a useful feature, to have a pipette-tool (like in impress->tools->color replacer) in all custom-color-dialogues to define user-defined-colors.

Hi Thomas,

Yes we are talking about the same thing.

Another place where the pipette already exists is Edit contour command on an image. Mention it here for a implementer to unify and check for regressions in most possible affected places.

the dropper function is badly needed

the dropper function is very necessary for the choice of colors on the screen

Current function of the LO implemented "pipette" tool is limited to color selection from the canvas extent of the current LO module. The MS "Eyedropper" from its "Theme Colors" picker (shown in attachment) behaves the same--only from the canvas of the current document.

Scope of the LO pick could probably expand to canvas of any active LO module, e.g. pick a color from draw for an object on writer canvas.

But ideally expand to the entire os/DE desktop to allow picking a color from outside LO if the os/DE can support it. E.g. to pick a color from a webbrowser or image editor and add to palette in LO. But that might be out of scope (it is already trivial to extract RGB externally, then enter directly via LO "Custom color...").

I think you're suggesting something well beyond the ask here... first, let's have a "pipette" selecting from the canvas extent of the current module - which is what this bug (and dupes) were opened about. When that's added, then would be the time to discuss possibly extending the scope to other modules/outside LO.

Exactly, I mean that, that they add the dropper function, and later we will see if it expands to the entire operating system

No argument from me ;-) So yes, getting the "pipette" for the sd Tools -> Color Replacer... integrated into our Color palette pick widget is the crux of the ask.

Hi,
I think it's very useful to be integrated in all programs that use colour in LO including Writer and Calc. Now, it's not useful only in Draw and Impress.
