Description krakken 2015-09-08 13:24:17 UTC
Summary:

If you work in Calc with different file types (.xls from Excel 2003 and .xlsx from Excel 2013 for example), especially when you need to save in one of those formats or if you need to continue some formatting work that was started in one of these formats, in order to stay compatible with people working with this Office suite:
Whenever you open the document in Calc and change the background color of one cell and it will resize the height of the whole row, against your will!
This is very annoying, especially if you need to do some precise work!

Easy way to reproduce:

1) In Calc, create a new spreadsheet.

2) Save As... an older .xls format from Excel 97-2003, for example (you do not even need to edit anything or to change the default row height).

3) Close this .xls file.

4) Reopen this .xls file.

5) Now, if you try to change the background color of some cells, it will resize the whole row automatically, against what you expect.

Hi @krakken, thanks for reporting.

Please, could you test that it's not and effect of the option:
Menu/Tools/LibreOffice calc/View - Visual Aids - Grid lines - "Hide",
and if change it for "Show on colored cells" solve your issue.

Hi,

I have just tested to toggle this option but this does not solve the issue.

Best regards,
Krakken

Reproducible.
Win10x64
Version 3.6.7.2 (Build ID: e183d5b)
Version: 4.3.7.2 Build ID: 8a35821d8636a03b8bf4e15b48f59794652c68ba
Version: 5.0.2.1 (x64) Build ID: 9a18d52abbdfbdc2ac9acebec2b92e7859eb73b7
Doesn't inherited from OOo.

Row sizes changes from 0,45 to 0,52, but I think not for change the background color, it shows the issue.

With
LibreOffice 3.3.4 OOO330m19 (Build:401) tag libreoffice-3.3.4.1
opening the xls created with 5.0 open with 0,48 height but default height for new files in this version is 0,48.

Selecting one or several rows, right-click - optimal Row Height does the same.

Seems default's row height is changed after save as xls, doesn't happen with xlsx.

Not reproducible opening some other xls files, maybe it depends on the program used to create the file.

Dear krakken,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword
