Created attachment 118583 [details] This is the odt file. When I open it the bullets are missing. I would like to send the pdf version as well so you can see what it is supposed to look like. I wanted to use an outline where the first two levels were numbered, and levels 3 and 4 were bullets. I can set this up, but when I save and reopen, the bullets are lost on levels 3 and 4.
Created attachment 118584 [details] Here is the pdf version, where the bullets are shown.
LO Version: Version: 5.0.1.2 Build ID: 00m0(Build:2) Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8) OS / kernel stuff: ubuntu 14.04 LTS 3.13.0-63-generic #103-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 14 21:42:59 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
It seems you inadvertently clicked on the button Bullets On/Off in the sidebar. If I select the lines with missing bullets and then hit this button, bullets are there again. Saving the file and reopen it, the bullets are still there. Does it works for you ? Best regards. JBF
Thanks for the feedback. I don't think this works for me. I have two levels of bullets, the top level (level 3 in outline) are squares and the bottom level (level 4) are solid circles. If I highlight those entries, and open the side bar and hit the bullets on/off, I get all circles. I get this effect without the side bar open. I will send screen shots.
Created attachment 118627 [details] opening with bullets missing Here is the odt file I sent just opened. I have no side bar opened.
Created attachment 118628 [details] restoring 2 levels of bullets through Format>Bullets & Numbering Here I select each level (level 3 and level 4) and for each set the Number and Character to bullets. I get the default square and circle back.
Created attachment 118629 [details] File is saved with bullets, no sidebar Please note there are visible bullets and that the save icon is greyed out.
Created attachment 118630 [details] bullets missing again when reopened Here I am reopening after having restored the bullets and saved, and they are again missing.
What happens with a clean fresh user profile? https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile Best regards. JBF
Jean-Baptiste, Thank you for the suggestion. It does not work. I moved ~/.config/libreoffice/4/user to ~/.config/libreoffice/4/user-old and reopened the test file. I added the bullets back as before and saved the file. Upon reopening, the bullets are missing again.
Created attachment 118650 [details] moved user folder, procedure for restoring bullets This shows 3 things. 1) In mc (left) you can see I moved the user folder. 2) Upon reopening the file, it is missing bullets. 3) I am using Format>Bullets & Numbering > Options to restore the bullets. (I have not hit "ok" yet in the dialog.)
Created attachment 118651 [details] bullets restored and file saved This shows that the procedure restored the bullets, and that the file is saved.
Created attachment 118652 [details] bullets vanish upon reopening again This shows the bullets are gone when I reopen the file. It also shows on the left in mc that LibreOffice has generated a new user profile for me. Thanks.
The procedure in comment 3 works for me. Win 7 Pro 64-bit, Version: 5.0.1.2 (32-bit) Build ID: 81898c9f5c0d43f3473ba111d7b351050be20261 Locale: fi-FI (fi_FI)
See also bug 106983.
The test file opens fine with its bullets with LO 5.4.1 from Ubuntu PPA for Ubuntu 16.04 x86-64. Opens fine with current master too. So closing as WorksForMe. Please feel free to reopen if the issue is still there for you with one of the current stable versions. Best regards. JBF
You cannot use Bullets in Chapter Numbering, but only in list numbering. Because the term "Outline" is misleading in English, the option in the Tools menu is renamed to "Chapter numbering" in LO 6. But the problem, that it is still possible to assign a bullet to a heading, remains. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 106983 ***

So I think it is a different problem. Best regards. JBF
Look at Tools > Outline Numbering. All the paragraph styles used in the text are listed there and if you look in the status bar, you will see "outline" too.
(In reply to Regina Henschel from comment #19) > Look at Tools > Outline Numbering. All the paragraph styles used in the text > are listed there and if you look in the status bar, you will see "outline" > too. Argh! you're right. Bad document design. Best regards. JBF
