Description Thorsten Wagner 2015-09-21 21:37:30 UTC
Significant Impress performance issues still exist in LO 5.0.2 RC2.

Typing of characters, switching slides as well as inserting objects and many other operations become very slow after a while. Creating presentations with Impress from LO 5 is very annoying. I'm able to use LO 5 with Writer and Calc, for Impress I have to use LO 4.5.

It seems the issue occurs after copying/pasting objects, e.g. slides.

@Thomas : without a series of steps and a test document to enable us to reproduce this, it is unlikely that we will be able to confirm this bug report. Please provide detailed steps plus document that results in reproducible behaviour.

It's difficult to determine a nonambiguous sequence, but I'll try to do so and come back to you. Generally the issue can be observed after working for a while, e.g. after 10 - 20 minutes.

I experience a similar issue. I assume it is a memory leak, but I do not know. Maybe we should track memory usage. Quiting libreoffice and starting again restores the performance. Mac OS X.

The issue still exists with LO 5.0.3. I found no explizit sequence to reproduce the behaviour, but it occurs after working with Impress for a while, e.g. for 10 to 20 minutes. This is reproducible.

Additionally I found a further performance issue, which has not necessarily the same root cause: Typing as well as deleting of characters becomes very slow when the main outline is empty, e.g. after inserting new slides. After inserting some text in the main outline, speed of typing/deleting characters normalizes.

All these annoying performance issues do not exist with LO 4.4.
Comment 5 Thorsten Wagner 2015-12-12 12:27:21 UTC
Performance is much better with LO 5.1 beta. Maybe it would be reasonable to include several optimizations of LO 5.1 in LO 5.0.
Comment 6 Thorsten Wagner 2016-02-12 18:01:58 UTC
Issue seems to be resolved with LO 5.1. Closing issue as LO 5.1 is available in the meantime.
