Sample Map

I am working on a complex map. LibreOffice continuously freezes. LibreOffice sometimes moves objects, adds slides, etc. while frozen. I suspect it is misinterpreting what I'm doing in other applications while waiting.

Note, this may be the same as bug #85832.

I am not working with an especially large map - it is only 224k - but it is an update of an old one, and may have issues because of changes in LibreOffice, it includes a lot of objects, and I've merged things into one group for alignment and printing to 4 sheets.

It is possible that LibreOffice is having trouble because of the size of the group.

If so, there needs to be a better way to print to multiple pages. So far, I've only found one way to print everything without resizing aything, and that involves grouping everything, reducing page size to the desired size, creating duplicate slides, and aligning one slide to the top and left, one to the top and right, etc.

@Marja :please try with the latest release of LO, your report was filed against 5.0.1.2

Also please indicate whether this is LibreOffice from the Appstore, or LibreOffice from the TDF download page, along with your version of OSX, thank you.

From tdf download page, in Yosemite 10.10.5.

This has been an issue since at least 2013, and persists in 5.0.2.

@MarjaE : thank you for providing the information, setting back to unconfirmed

Can only reproduce on

Version: 5.0.2.2
Build ID: 37b43f919e4de5eeaca9b9755ed688758a8251fe
Locale : fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8)

Linux Mint 17.2

at high zoom, i.e. zoom values > 1000%. In this case, on my machine, LO slows to what might be considered a freeze by some, and will bizarrely select/move objects in the drawing even when the mouse has switched to another desktop. This would appear to be a context switch / memory management issue, where the LO renderer still thinks it has focus, instead of releasing the context to the newly selected window process.

@Marja : are the problems you're experiencing only apparent at high zoom values ?

I will also try on my Mac later

@MarjaE : also, have you tried increasing the cache size for graphic objects in your LO general settings ?
Comment 7 MarjaE 2015-10-06 16:19:48 UTC
Al zoom values, and no, not familiar with that option.
Comment 8 MarjaE 2015-10-06 21:16:57 UTC
I have 20 mb in my graphics cache. I have 225 kb in the latest version of the map.
Comment 9 MarjaE 2015-11-16 01:45:17 UTC
I have upped it to 200 mb in my graphics cache. Bug persists.

Saw an old post on a similar issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/411542

I turned off antialiasing. At first LibreOffice ran smoothly. Then LibreOffice started showing the same selection and latency issues, started stuttering, etc. Still LibreOffice without antialiasing, after slowing down, had better performance than with antialiasing, before slowing down.

Basically a special case of the same latency issues as #93540.
