When creating a boolean field in a table, LO offers option for default value of the field : YES, NO or <nothing> (in french : OUI, NON, <aucun> ). But selecting YES, NO or selecting <nothing> produces always <nothing> ; it's not possible to obtain NO or YES for default value.
@moebius20 : - which database engine ? - which version of LibreOffice ? (distrib provided or TDF download) ? - depending on db backend - how are you accessing the db ? (driver type and version)
Seems like a duplicate of either bug 45606 or bug 56612

LO is 5.02 got directly from libreoffice.org. Db backend ? I don't know how to obtain this information. In LO-BASE, after opening the database I use, in Edit/Databases menu, the properties and connexion types options are greyed.
