I think that if we talk about a mathematical formula, we need to show how it works. I mean, we do not have to write a textbook trigonometry, but to show how it is counting. For example, it makes sense for formulas a complex number. The same economic and statistic formulas, so they can be calculated in different ways, especially if we are talking about different schools. In addition we will explain a formula operation of Calc, we will make a small hint that will delight students :) Now we can insert images with formula in help. It would great that we could to write formula as in Math or Mediawiki.
Please have a look at https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/How_Tos/Calc:_Functions_listed_alphabetically and the definitions there. For the local help it can only be solved, if we get a different, more up-to-date build-in browser. Then writing in MathML would be possible. But if you look at the amount of functions, that would be a really huge work. I think, that it is better to take the already existing descriptions on the Wiki and improve them and add the missing functions. The local help then needs to have a link to the description in the Wiki for each function. As far as I see, the function content on the AOO Wiki is under ALv2 license. So it would be possible to copy it over into the Wiki of The Document Foundation. But whether to do that is a political affair.
Thank you, Regina. But what the wiki OOo has requires serious revision. I will spend as much time to create beautiful formulas in the form of images as to copy from the wiki OOo. In addition, it will still be an image, not text that can either improve, without use additional editors. Regarding the description of the formulas, I think it was taken from http://docs.oasis-open.org/office/v1.2/os/OpenDocument-v1.2-os-part2.хтмл or earlier. The operation of LO functions may have a different character, in addition, description the functions only brief hints, but not as an article of Help.
Maybe I did not put the right meta tag. I propose to improve the editing of еthe help.
It is not clear to me, what you want. Your subject is about input of formulas. And for them, I mentioned, that it is currently impossible to use them as formula, because the viewer is impossible to render such. Or do you meant the formulas as example for how useful it would be, to be able to show pictures? Or something else? There is a large problem with the images in the local help, not only in editing with the helpauthoring tool, but also in viewing the current help files. So there is a need to investigate and identify the individual problems. For example: (1) The icon-themes do not have all the pictures, which are referenced in the help. (2) The help references a folder, which does not exist in LibreOffice but only in AOO. (3) The helpauthoring tool can only insert images with relative path, if they are beneath the help root, but the pictures are not even in helpautoring2 but in core.
(In reply to Regina Henschel from comment #4) > It is not clear to me, what you want. > Your subject is about input of formulas. And for them, I mentioned, that it > is currently impossible to use them as formula, because the viewer is > impossible to render such. Well, I realized that Documentation team is not interested to make a normal input formulas, as is done, for example, in the MathML, Math or LaTeX. >(2) The help references a folder, which does not exist in LibreOffice but only > in AOO. I do not see references to non-existent folder. I see that the images are placed not in all folder. Therefore, in some icons-themes the image shows in the help, but not in others. >(3) The helpauthoring tool can only insert images with relative path, if they > are beneath the help root, but the pictures are not even in helpautoring2 > but in core. I am sorry, I am using Vim, and I do not know that helpautoring2 can do or cannot.
helpautoring2 = HelpAutoring
