Dear LibreOffice Team,

I wanted to create a squared table in a crossword style. So, suppose you have a table like 15x20 (columns x rows).

A first glitch I noticed, is that I can't divide all cells equally through the left click options once I decide later to make them larger or smaller, i.e. I have to set the size from the beginning, otherwise the reallocation will make the table extra huge and extend it to the next page.

Now that I have my squares I want to split some of them horizontally where the crossword clues will be entered (Scandinavian style). The thing is that when I split one cell, there is in fact an invisible line splitting all the cells of the row at the same point. This means that I cannot move the separating line from cell to cell individually in case I need to. In my attachment you will notice this. E.g. in cells 1,2,3 (also the far right one) the upper separating line within them is actually one imaginable straight line and if I want to draw it a bit lower (e.g. in cells 2 and 3) it will move in all cells of the row (if at all).

I'd appreciate if there is a solution to that. Thank you and have a nice day.

Cordially,
Michael

On which LO version are you? (Last stable one is 5.0.2)

You say "In my attachment you will notice this", but there is no attachment.

Set to NEEDINFO.
Change back to UNCONFIRMED after you have provided version information & attachment.

Cell split

I'll try again with the attachment. Notice that cell splitting is restricted to all vertical cells and I cannot set sizes of the boxes individually.

I think Writer tables are not the best solution for creating crosswords :)
There are dedicated applications for it.

Can you recommend one programme with that function? Not the classic-style crosswords but the Scandinavian ones, as in my pic. Thaaank you!

Well, KDE has this: https://userbase.kde.org/KrossWordPuzzle http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=111726

- Different crossword types: American, Swedish, Number Puzzle and Crossnumber. User defined types are also possible based on a set of rules. Barred crosswords can be played/designed (bars added automatically).

KDE apps are easiest to get running on Linux. There is work on getting everything run smoothly on Win: https://techbase.kde.org/Projects/KDE_on_Windows

I cannot download it. It says all the time ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT.
Is there a way you can upload the file somewhere and send me a link?

Thank you again!

I recommend you install Kubuntu Linux and then install it using their package manager: http://kubuntu.org/

I can confirm with Version: 5.2.0.0.alpha0+ and 4.0; win7

steps
create table in writer
split first cell vertically into 2 cells
split cell bellow the first cell vertically into 2 cells
move border of the cell

actual results:
both cells are affected

expected results
I'm able to change only one cell (for example like in word - standard is changing all cells like in Writer, but when I select one cell, I can change position of split of one cell)

Dear Michael,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team
