Description Marc Schipperheyn 2015-11-02 13:41:59 UTC
I use calc a lot on Mac OSX. I use java 8.

LibreOffice Calc is very good. But in the chart area I find it lacking.
At face value, the functionality is good. But when you use it to get things done, you find many little things that are problematic.

Problems:
* Saving to and Loading from xlsx, screws up charts

I often have to fend off colleagues that try to make us go to Microsoft Office. My contention that Libreoffice is a good alternative depends on solid document format parity with Microsoft Office because this is still the default used by many if not most people, especially professional business partners such as lawyers, accountants etc.

* Loading and saving to/from xlsx makes categories disappear. It's also not clear how to get them back.

* Loading and saving to/from xlsx makes chart legends get reformatted in strange ways

* Navigating between sheets to retrieve a data range for a chart is agonizingly slow. It takes seconds between clicking a data range buttons and then select another sheet for the sheet to show up. It looks like a lot of computing cycles are being wasted on something under the hood.

* It's not clear how to add a line to a column and line chart.

* Sub titles get duplicated between load and save cycles

* It's hard to edit the chart type and data range after creating a chart. One click leads to the chart going to design mode and double clicking leads to the data edit mode. However, I often find myself double clicking various times to get to the data edit mode. This should be just one single pull down menu

* After you edit a chart, often you see a cached outdated version of the chart. When you then click to edit again, you see the up to date version. It's not clear how to force update the chart and it should never show a cached version in the first place

Hi Marc,
thanks for your report but I have to inform you that the policy of this bug tracker is to process a single issue per each report.

multiple issues in a single report are impossible to handle for developers and QA members, so you have to file all of them separately (please check for potential duplicates too).

I have to close this one as INVALID.
I hope you understand.
