Example ODP and PDF files

Text with background color is properly shown in Impress during authoring. However such text is rendered without background color in presentation mode or if the presentation is exported as PDF. The attached files can be used to reproduce the issue.

PS: Since "5.0.3.2 release" wasn't in the Version list I selected "5.0.3.2 rc".

Thanks for the good report - can you let us know if this is a regression from a previous version?
Comment 2 Alex Thurgood 2015-11-05 14:11:01 UTC
Problem was already present in

Version: 4.4.5.2
Build ID: a22f674fd25a3b6f45bdebf25400ed2adff0ff99
Locale: fr.UTF-8

resetting version to earliest tested
Comment 3 Alex Thurgood 2015-11-05 14:18:00 UTC
Version: 4.1.4.2
Build ID: 0a0440ccc0227ad9829de5f46be37cfb6edcf72

the background colour is not even displayed in the initial ODP file.
Comment 4 Alex Thurgood 2015-11-05 14:20:21 UTC
Also confirming that background colour not shown in slideshow mode.
Comment 5 Joel Madero 2015-11-05 15:41:06 UTC
Upping to:

Major: Loss of data
High: Default

If this is a regression it should be bumped to highest, and a bibisect should be done.

Text background missing from slideshow is already reported as bug#93789

It is absolutely not a regression, it is a missing feature. Text background colour in Impress/Draw was implemented for 4.4 (core) and 5.0 (UI) respectively, it is not yet so well integrated into the platform

Actually the other item on the agenda (background colour missing from PDF export) is also already reported: bug#92849
Comment 8 Armin Le Grand (allotropia) 2015-11-05 16:49:06 UTC
Grepping bug#92849 and taking a look. PDF export is more important than slideshow, plus the task also mentions SVG export, too. Thanks for finding/identifying the single tasks!

Bug 100264 => all OS,
problem still in Ubuntu 14.10 and Impress 5.0.5.2
and Windows 7 and Impress 5.0.6.3,

I was caught off guard by this problem and confirm it persists in LibreOffice 5.2.3.1. The bug title is misleading IMHO: text highlighting is lost in presentation mode, it doesn't render at all. It is also lost when saving a presentation as a PDF which is where I discovered it.

As others have noted, the problem is due to a well-intended but problematic partial implementation.

The added highlighting is only visible during editing, not during presentation nor after export to a PDF (and perhaps other formats). In some cases, e.g. highlighted text with a background image, the text may become impossible to read, not a nice scenario to discover during a presentation!

Since the feature is rather broken in its current state, it might make for a better user experience to remove it for now from the UI.

Progress has been made on PDF export. PDF export preserves now text highlighting in LibreOffice 5.3.2.2 (Linux, Ubuntu 17.04).

Text highlightning is still not shown when in presentation mode.

PDF export preserves text highlighting
Text highlightning is still not shown in presentation mode.

No need to keep this bug open, text background is in bug 93789 and pdf export is fixed.
