Description tkansgar 2015-11-22 11:37:05 UTC
Hello,

since last Windows 10 update ("November update") Calc can't save changes, when file was opened via recent used list entry in Windows 10 start menu tile (displayed when right clicking on tile). There comes a message saying "error when writing" (here in German). The file remains open, and I have to create an empty new document, copy the complete tables' content into this new document and save it under another name on disk. Then I have to close the original file unsaved and exit Calc. Then I have to open both the original and the new one via Explorer entry, copy the whole content (or the changed cells) from the new file to the original one. Then saving of this file is successful. The new file can be deleted now.

When I don't save the copied contents in a file and leave the new document open after closing the original unsaved, I can't open it from Explorer. Calc crashes, and I have to kill all Libre Office processes in Task Manager, before I can open the original file again.

Two additional infos: The file contains formulas, which use the actual date, so that the displayed content is changed every time the file is opened. And I use a self signed script to avoid the save question, when I havn't done any manual changes, since the changes by the new actual date don't have to and can't be saved to disk.

Is the save error a bug in Libre Office or in the November update of Windows 10?

One more info: The error occures also, when the file has been opened via a link folder provided by Explorer (e.g. libraries->documents->public documents). The saving only seems to be successful, when the file has been opened from the original place.

Is this particular to a specific file or any files? It's a bit unclear based on the description. If it's specific to a specific file we'll need a copy of the file. I'll try to test this tomorrow on my W10 machine when I have access.

Hi Joel,

it doesn't happen with each file. And I just tried to save some small changes in that file, where it happened recently, but now it didn't happen there too. I will try to find out, what changes I have to do to get that error. Then I will create two sample files, one with the error and one other without it. But wait until weekend please, when I have more time to do this.

Hi Joel again,

now I can't reproduce the save error anymore. Seems, Microsoft has fixed it these days. If it occures again in future, I will post it here again.

Many thanks,
