When a text is selected with rectangular selection by using Alt key + mouse left-click + dragging over the text, a forthcoming edit applies on one row.
This is an enhancement request and not a bug. Older discussion: http://en.libreofficeforum.org/node/226 Another example from a text editor: https://notepad-plus-plus.org/features/multi-editing.html
This is still the case now (ver 7.1.7 Mac osx). Backspace deletes the highlighted characters OK. As this was opened in 2015 and still has not been actioned, is it still valid? Has this been decided as a non-starter? If it has been dropped, should it be marked as such?

But we can ask UX team what they think as I just accepted this without discussion 6 years ago
We allow block selection (and some other modes). I don't see what is needed.

Updated links: https://web.archive.org/web/20150707190654/http://en.libreofficeforum.org/node/226 https://npp-user-manual.org/docs/editing/#multi-editing Heiko: you can very well argue "LibreOffice is not a code/text editor" and close this as wontfix.
The feature request describes a selection method that relies on a pointing device. For accessibility reasons, please also specify a method that would work for keyboard users, such as user with certain mobility impairments and blind users.
Block selection is possible with mouse and keyboard. However, you can only delete the block. It's not possible to enter text at all selected positions known as multi cursor editing on text editors or IDEs. This would be out of scope.
