Created attachment 122831 [details] Comments in Linux Mint 17.3 Comments in LO Calc should be displayed in a box with a solid background. In Linux Mint 17.3, there is no box, and the background is only under the text. See the Mint17.jpg attachment. I see the bug in the following versions of LO: Linux Mint 17.3 (installed): LibreOffice 3.3.4 OOO330m19 (Build:401) Version 3.6.7.2 (Build ID: e183d5b) Version: 5.0.3.2 Build ID: 1:5.0.3~rc2-0ubuntu1~trusty2 Version: 5.2.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: bc20c6d0f397c0c1aef6ef7d6f750c2f81af8db6 Linux Mint 17.3 (Live CD on two different computers): Version: 5.0.3.2 Build ID: 1:5.0.3~rc2-0ubuntu1~trusty2 I see a slightly different appearance in Linux Mint 16. The background is there, but the box is not. See the Mint16.jpg attachment. Linux Mint 16 (installed): Version: 4.1.3.2 Build ID: 410m0(Build:2) The bug is not seen in the following versions of LO: Linux Mint 13 (installed): LibreOffice 3.5.7.2 Build ID: 350m1(Build:2) Version: 4.5.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: 7201fa0dddd7dd0352f69fd2b2b64efcb361ccad Linux Mint 15 (installed): Version 4.0.2.2 (Build ID: 400m0(Build:2)) Linux Mint 17.3 installed in VirtualBox (Linux Mint 17.3 host): Version: 5.0.3.2 Build ID: 1:5.0.3~rc2-0ubuntu1~trusty2 Windows 8.1 (installed): Version: 5.1.0.3 Build ID: 5e3e00a007d9b3b6efb6797a8b8e57b51ab1f73 Occasionally, the first time you mouse-over a comment, the box is displayed, but the second time it is not. FWIW, if the wallch wallpaper changer is installed, the box and background will be displayed when the wallpaper is changed.

@Jay - you might checking this out since you run Mint?
Cant reproduce this on Linux Mint 17.3 Mate, but the issue with attachment 122831 [details] shows up on Linux Mint 17.2 XFCE and Ubuntu XFCE 14.04 and something similar to attachment 122832 [details] shows up in Linuxt Mint 17.3 Cinnamon. The problem only occurs when hovering over, but not when you unhide the comment.
@rebelxt: What desktop environment are you using?
@Jay: I assume you mean hardware. The Linux all run on a homebuilt desktop with an Intel CPU, using the built-in graphics; all OS's use their default graphics driver. Windows 8.1 runs on an ASUS laptop, also with an Intel CPU and the built-in graphics.
@rebelxt: No i meant which desktop environment version of Linux Mint are you running. Are you running Cinnamon, Mate, XFCE or KDE?
All of them are Mate.
So i did some more testing and the bug showed up on - no background box - Ubuntu Mate 15.10 live usb Ubuntu Mate 16.04 live usb Xubuntu 16.04 live usb Mint Mate 17.3 live usb - partial background box - Mint Cinnamon 17.3 live usb But it didnt show up here Kubuntu 16.04 live usb Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 live usb Mint Mate 17.1 installed All these were tested from the same laptop with Intel 945GM internal graphics. I'm assuming it may have to do with the liberoffice-gtk package. @Bjoern, @Maxim: Any thoughts?
Tested Ubuntu 16.04 and it was the same partial background box found in Mint Cinammon.
Tested on Arch Mate (LO 5.0.5.2). The background box displayed properly.
Alt+Tab will cause the comment background to be displayed, as long as the cursor is not moved from the cell.

** Please read this message in its entirety before responding ** To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year. There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present. If you have time, please do the following: Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/ If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. Please DO NOT Update the version field Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker) Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case) If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo'; 4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone! Created attachment 138232 [details] Comment in Linux Mint 18 and LO 5.4.3.2
My system is: Release Linux Mint 18 Sarah 64-bit Kernel Linux: 4.4.0-101-generic #124-Ubuntu SMP Fri Nov 10 18:29:59 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux MATE 1.14.1 LibreOffice 5.4.3.2 It looks good while I write the comment. I exit the comment editing mode. I put the mouse over and it goes wrong (without box) (view attached image)
So on Linux Mint 18 (MATE 1.14.1), the issue only happens with the gtk2 backend and only when using the 'Marco + Compositing' or 'Compiz' window managers, but not when using 'Marco' or 'Marco + Compton' window managers.
