Activity monitor log shortly before libre office was killed

using a small base database with some tables and little data.

editing a data-entry form with roundabout 40 elements, adding new ones renders libre office unusable after a few changes. response times increasingly get longer until system is near to unuseable.

trying to save the form results in a complete freeze.

in the background libreoficce writes gigabytes to the disk (database size about 800kB) i killed lo when it had written 3.5 GB of Data to the Drive.

i´m suppling screenshots and an activity monitor log of the last actions libreoffice did take.

Memory allocation to libreoffice was 512MB, max. objects 50, max object size 20mb in preferences.

any help? any known error?

Please attach a sample database. Marking as NEEDINFO, once attached, set to UNCONFIRMED. Thank you

FYI - those screenshots aren't horribly helpful :) We need a test db

database

database i used before trying to edit form "Faelle". Made some changes (scrrenshot shows editing results). supplied database is the one libre office reconstructed after restart.
shows no changes in "Faelle", seemingly reverted to start

Comment 7 Martin Neuß 2016-03-02 22:07:01 UTC
tried new version of libreoficce 5.1.03, installed oracle jdk 8u74. tried it again.

after making a few changes in the form "Faelle" of the database libre office slowed down considerably and became nearly unusable while writing to the harddiak all the time.

memory allocation now was 768MB, 7MB per Object, 50 Objects.

Last database added as attachment.

Maybe useful for hangs: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugReport/Debug_Information#Mac_OSX

Comment 11 Martin Neuß 2016-03-25 14:02:27 UTC
hi. i´ve added two crash reports. there seems to be a thread which is repeatedly called in a probably inifinite loop. it crashes always and is always restarted by libre office during form editing.

hope this helps.

Martin,

Did you try the :

sudo mdutil -t 24459071

command that mdworker reports for a file being suspect ?

From your trace, it would appear that mdworker is having a problem using the Spotlight plugin.

There was a known bug with the LO Spotlight plugin which led mdworker32 to respawn constantly. This is/was bug 47689. A fix was made for LO 4.2.x so it should still be in the code and should therefore work (unless someone has "unfixed" it since, or some other code change has screwed that up).

This might not be a Base problem at all, just that mdworker is respawning so often against a file it can't process in the background that it causes LO to crash.

More investigation needed. Please try the sudo mdutil command I indicted above and report back.
Comment 13 Alex Thurgood 2016-05-19 07:44:54 UTC
@Martin :

your "PatBK Beth.odb" file doesn't flag as a problem with mdimport in verbose mode, so the constant respawn in mdworker is probably due to a problem with another file on your system. This is the file you need to track down with mdutil. If it is an ODF file, at least we should be able to inspect it and try and understand why mdimport is failing on it.

Please reset the bug report back to unconfirmed once you have reported back with the information.

I could add a couple of new records to your Faelle form and did not notice any slowdown or increase in system resources, and certainly no crash, so I really don't think that the Base file is the problem. Changing component to LibreOffice instead.
