Created attachment 123221 [details] UGX currency select Hi, In Format cells -> Category -> Currency -> Format -> "UGX USh Ghana" The UGX/USh currency is incorrectly labeled as "Ghana", it should be labeled "Uganda". i.e. Ugandan Shilling. The currency in Ghana is the Cedi (GHS) and it is correctly labeled in the dropdown. regards, xcsd Diarmuid
The screenshot you attached shows "Ganda", not "Ghana" So, should it be "UGX USh Uganda" or "UGX USh Ganda" is ok?
It should be labelled: "UGX USh Uganda"
I submitted a patch to review here: https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/22926/ Just for curiosity, why then have you talked about Ghana whereas it wasn't related to the screenshot?

Diarmuid: Adolfo (put in cc), proposes "Ugandan" instead of "Uganda", see comment in https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/22926/ It makes sense to me, any thoughts?
That is fine by me, just want to see the correct country against the currency.

OK, so that drop-down box is reusing language names for currency. “Ganda” is a valid alternative name for Luganda, one of the major languages in use in Uganda. I’ve now realized that by suggesting “Ugandan” we’re now inaccurately referring to the (Lu)ganda language, since the word “Ugandan” can be used to encompass all of the languages used in the country (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_Uganda). This may turn out to be an issue later on. A proper fix would be for this drop-down to contain the actual, full names of the currencies. Maybe we could use ICU to retrieve the currency names. @Eike, any ideas?

My fix was wrong, I don't know how to fix this. Certainly someone will know.
As noted, langtab.src lists language/locale names, which are reused in the currency list. It is wrong to change that name from Ganda to Ugandan. Our locale data also provides a currency name in the <CurrencyName> element, which for lg-UG is "Silingi", but that is not part of localization so could only be offered as is. It might be possible to use ICU currency names, but also those may not be translated in all languages we provide localization for, additionally it might not provide names for all currencies we offer from our locales, needs to be checked. It might be it provides a full list of ISO 4217 currency codes.

As per request, I have tested with 5.3.3 and the bug still exists. This is a simple bug to fix, it is a text field that is for all intents and purposes spelt wrong. Kernel: 4.4.0-75-generic x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: Cinnamon 3.2.7 Distro: Linux Mint 18.1 Serena
(In reply to Diarmuid O'Briain from comment #14) > This is a simple bug to fix. Actually reading the previous comment 12 you could had deduced that this is not trivial to fix.
This problem was not resolved when reported and still exists in the new 6.0.0.3 release. There is only one currency in Uganda (the country where the Ludandans are only one tribe of many live) UGX or USh for Uganda Shilling and 42 local languages from 23 language groups. It is obviously not a good idea to tie language and currency together unless you are prepared to have a many to one relationship. The fact is there is no Ganda currency, there is a Uganda currency issued by the Bank of Uganda which was established in 1966, by Act of Parliament of the Ugandan government. ISO 4217 assigns the Ugandan currency the alphabetic code "UGX" and the numeric code "800" and the currency name "Ugandan shilling". The Ganda people (Bugandans) only represent 16% of the population of Uganda. If you are worried about linking Uganda with UGX/USh and want to maintain the Ganda then you need to add the following list or you are disenfranchising 84% of the Ugandan population or about 30 million people. UGX USh Acholi UGX USh Adhola UGX USh Alur UGX USh Aringa UGX USh Bari UGX USh Elgon UGX USh Ganda UGX USh Ik UGX USh Karamojong UGX USh Kiga UGX USh Kuman UGX USh Lango UGX USh Lugbara UGX USh Lussese UGX USh Ma'di UGX USh Ndo UGX USh Nkole UGX USh Nyoro UGX USh Pokot UGX USh Soga UGX USh Soo UGX USh Teso UGX USh Tooro By the way I noticed (and raised a different ticket for it, but the Kenyan Shilling (KES) is not available at all.

This bug is still alive and well, 5 years after I logged it. It might be better to fix it instead of emailing me after every major version release expecting I will test and find it has magically fixed itself. Created attachment 169490 [details] There is no country called Ganda but there is a country called Uganda
Since 2018, there has been 1 automatic email in 2019 and 1 2021, I don't consider this as a spam. For the rest, I can't help here=>uncc myself.
(In reply to Diarmuid O'Briain from comment #20) > There is no country called Ganda but there is a country called Uganda There's the language Ganda spoken in Uganda, which forms the locale of which the currency is taken, the currency list is merged from currency + language/locale name, as already explained in comment 12.
