While in numbering, the promote buttons and their icons seem to be backwards. The demote is on the right arrow, which should be promote(moving the indentation up one), where as the arrow that shows it going to the left says promote

Unless I am mistaken, these should be reversed so that the promote is the forward arrow, and pushes the line indentation in. I'm on build 4.4.4.3
Also noticed this on build 5.1.3.2 on my Arch Linux install
No, they have the correct function assigned as defined: https://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Demote_One_Level https://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Promote_One_Level Additionally for 5.2 master builds, the buttons *have* been repositioned on the Bullets & Numbering toolbar to place the more common demote actions in front of the promote actions.
Should have added, in this context. Demote means increase the indent, while Promote means to decrease the indent.
I would have thought promote would have increased the indent, where demote would have lessened the indent. Maybe it would be more intuitive to have "Increase indent level" and "Decrease indent level"
(In reply to jakevossen5 from comment #8) > I would have thought promote would have increased the indent, where demote > would have lessened the indent. > > Maybe it would be more intuitive to have "Increase indent level" and > "Decrease indent level" Demote and Promote are pretty routinely used in this context of rank within a hierarchy. That is our use here. And, theoretically, you could have styles assigned to the various heading, numbering and bulleting that don't physically increase or decrease the indenting in following the promote or demote actions. Believe UI and labeling is correct as is, so Not a Bug, and would move to resolve Wont Fix any suggestion to change. But, out for broader UX comment.
