ok, if it is still doing it after that, could be the fact that it's a newer XLSX file created in Microsoft Excel, which the open office you are using, probably can't read those file types. You will need to have them send you a modified version

For the past couple of days, I have had a problem with Word and Excel-type documents not opening up from email downloads. It seems to be hung up at the logo.

Admittedly I downloaded this newer version of LibreOffice. Perhaps it's not compatible with Windows 7?

Not an urgent thing as I can usually open most those files with Google Docs but, I like the way they view through LibreOffice.

FYI, I am opening up these docs from Chrome browser

We need a test file. Once you provide one set it to UNCONFIRMED.

What do you mean "through Chrome" - are you downloading the file? Please give exact steps that you are taking.

FWIW: I use LibreOffice 5.2 (master) on Windows 7 and there are no problems so I'm relatively confident that this is not a bug but give us more details to try to figure out what's going on.

Sure. These docs come tome through a Gmail account that I use on a Chrome browser. PDFs seem to download fine and open automatically. But,when I try to open the XLS or Doc files, they show up as downloaded at the bottom of the screen. When I click to open, it doesn't open up. There is also a green LibreOffice 5 The Document Foundation logo that shows up on the screen and just stays there. This is what makes me and our IT guy thinks it's getting hung up some how.

I just the File Associations and they all seem to line up appropriately with LO Writer and LO Calc.

Hi Dave,

I attempted to reproduce the problem with Chrome and downloading the doc file that you attached, but unfortunately wasnt able to reproduce the issue on Windows 7. Does the same thing happen when you open the downloaded file through windows explorer?

Well. We've been asked to not use IE and just use Chrome. I appreciate your efforts! I'll try to do some more thinking on my end. Many thanks.

Explorer - not Internet Explorer. The file browser in windows

Aha! Sorry. It doesn't seem to want to open up either in that way. I just tried to open a doc. in Explorer and it did nothing. But, the same doc did open with Wordpad when I selected it to open that file.

Hi Dave,

Does the same thing happen when you open LibreOffice and select the file in the Open dialog?
Comment 11 Buovjaga 2016-03-13 18:42:26 UTC
Dave: you could also try uninstalling your current LibreOffice and then installing 5.1.1.
Comment 12 Adolfo Jayme Barrientos 2016-04-17 00:49:44 UTC
Sounds like an issue in file type association. A reinstall should help resolve the problem easily.
Comment 13 Joel Madero 2016-04-17 00:52:41 UTC
IMHO this should be closed as WFM and the OP should go to the user forums to get assistance. Multiple QA members can't reproduce so it must be an environment issue.
Comment 14 Buovjaga 2016-04-17 07:28:24 UTC
You are right. WFM it is.
