Description redeeman 2016-03-17 21:17:45 UTC
Opening csv files of around half a million lines is an absurdly slow task, we are talking more than 1 minute on a core i5 ivy bridge, a filesize less than 75MB. Even if all columns are marked as text type.

Saving is likewise also a groteskly slow thing.
Comment 1 redeeman 2016-03-17 21:18:44 UTC
actually, saving is much slower, monstrously slow, so far its been 5 minutes running and the progress bar is not on the nice side of middle.

Hi redeeman,

thanks for your report.
Two questions:
1. You are on 5.0.3.2.
Now there have been various improvements recently on specific Calc-tasks.
Any change for you to see how 5.0.5.2 and/or 5.1.3 and/or a daily build perform for your work?

2. Can you provide a (link to a) test file?

Regards,
Cor

would trying 5.1.1.3 help?

I can email you a file, but I would rather not post it publicly, as i do not want the data disclosed

also what is "specific calc-tasks" im talking simply opening and saving a file, saving being by far the absolute worst.

however, many other things are also excruciatingly slow, such as for example pressing on a column and simply deleting all its contents.

My questions of course stand.
You may send the file by transfer or so.
Reading your other remarks: that does not sound normal. Did/can you try with a clean user profile?

I tried cleaning user profile on old version, didnt change anything.

Upgraded to 5.1.1.3 (which I assume you meant, given 5.1.3 is not released anywhere I can find).

Yes, it has become faster, notably saving. But it is still monstrously slow, this time taking 9 minutes to save the file.

Opening is also slow still, but probably a bit faster than before.

I apologize for not having provided sample file yet, will provide it soon.

Thanks for this info!
If you have the opportunity for a parallel installation
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel
please try on a daily
  http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/
there have been considerable performance improvements recent.
Or try a fresh version; also much newer
