Description Michael Bauer 2016-04-02 11:40:17 UTC
Steps to reproduce:
1) Open a Calc spreadsheet
2) Open Word or a PDF, copy some text
3) Paste into Calc

Current behaviour: Calc treats the text as an image

Expected behaviour: Treated it as text

The odd thing is that pasting from a browser or Notepad++ works as expected.

This is very similar to a bug we had with Write: Bug 84275

You can select how to past using Menu/Edit/Past special.

I have not word but pasting text from a pdf it's pasted as text, but if it is text in the pdf.
Comment 3 Michael Bauer 2016-04-02 22:28:58 UTC
I know about paste special but it's pretty crazy behaviour to have default paste of *text* come in as a graphic.

I cannot imagine any user case where that is a sensible default behaviour.

I do not have MS-Office on my PC (MS does not provide Linux version of its office software ;-) ).
Tested only with copy from pdf opened in evince, and I do not reproduce the problem with LO 5.1.3.0.0+.

When I paste text form a pdf it's pasted as text for me as default.

Please try resetting the user profile, sometimes solves strange issues.

Usually it's enough renaming/deleting the file "user/registrymodifications.xcu", it affects all the options in Menu/Tools/Options, and the files "user/basic/dialog.xlc" and "scrip.xlc" are overwritten, additionally custom colors in "user/config/standard.soc" are lost.
Comment 6 Michael Bauer 2016-04-03 09:55:59 UTC
I have tried renaming the xcu but the behaviour remains the same for me.

Please can you attach a pdf sample file from where to copy, or share a link in the web, to test. (remember it will be public).
Comment 8 Michael Bauer 2016-04-03 15:13:36 UTC
This is weird. I had renamed the xcu, restarted LO but no change. So I closed it, deleted the new xcu and re-instated the old one.

Just now, I opened the PDF I had issues with and it pasted exactly that section as text rather than image.

Very strange. I'm happy to close the bug unless someone thinks this needs to be taken further? But I'm guessing the problems with that xcu must be well know already?

Either way, thanks for your help!

Closed as worksforme, but please if you have the old xcu, and it has not personal information, please attach here, there is interest into analyse profile issues.
