Description rvwalleghem 2016-04-18 10:29:52 UTC
After update from
Versie: 5.1.0.3
Build ID: 5e3e00a007d9b3b6efb6797a8b8e57b51ab1f737
CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Windows 6.2; UI Render: GL;
Locale: nl-BE (nl_BE)

to version 5.1.2.2 Libre Office crashes when opening some .ods files.

Libre Office says the file has to be "repaired" but that option crashes.
When returning to version 5.1.0.3 everything works fine.
Comment 1 steve 2016-04-18 10:43:28 UTC
Please attach one of the problematic files (after removing any sensitive data).

Setting to NEEDINFO until more detail is provided.

After providing the requested info, please reset this bug to UNCONFIRMED (should it be persisting) or WORKSFORME (should it be solved with a newer LO version).

calc file with simple formulas and graphics

this file crashes with version 5.1.2.2 and is OK with 5.1.0.3
Comment 3 raal 2016-04-18 14:51:08 UTC
No crash with Version: 5.2.0.0.alpha0+; win7

For the test, could you rename your LibreOffice directory profile (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile) and give it a new try?
Comment 4 rvwalleghem 2016-04-18 15:58:52 UTC
I renamed the directory user to user_old.

Then I installed version 5.1.2.2 and tried the specific file again.

result: the directory user was created and the program crashed again.
Comment 5 rvwalleghem 2016-04-18 16:12:52 UTC
after the program mentionned the crash it shows:

Libre Office 5.1 - Fatal Error

Unkown SEH Exception
Comment 6 raal 2016-04-18 16:29:43 UTC
If possible, please follow the instructions provided at this link < https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/How_to_get_a_backtrace_with_WinDbg > and submit a backtrace. That way a developer can look into the underlying reason of the crash.

backtrace file

I suppose that this file contains insufficient data. I will try to make a better backtrace file as soon as possible.

second backtrace file with more data

The first backtrace file is made when LibreOffice 5.1.2.2 tried to open the problematic file for the first time. This causes the program to mention that this fiel has to be repaired.

The second trace file is made when LibreOffice 5.1.2.2 tried to open the file agien with then mention that this file has to be "repaired". Each time the "repair" failed.

When I restore the previous version (5.1.0.3) then I get the mention that the file has to be repaired, but with this version the repair is succesfull.

Does the crashing stop, if you disable Tools - Options - LibreOffice - View - Use OpenGL for all rendering and restart LibO?
Comment 10 Buovjaga 2016-04-29 10:50:44 UTC
Cloph on IRC noted some code in the area referred to in the backtrace was changed for version 5.1.3. Could you try with the 5.1.3 release candidate? http://www.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/
Comment 11 rvwalleghem 2016-04-29 11:50:59 UTC
I installed version 5.1.3

Same crash as in version 5.1.2.

Then I followed the instructions as in comment 9:

disable Tools - Options - LibreOffice - View - Use OpenGL for all rendering

problem solved!!

Could you give precise model of graphic card?
Also, could you check you got the last graphic card drivers?
If it was not the case, you can test again after having re enabled OpenGl, if the version was already last one, please give details of this version.
Indeed, perhaps we should add an entry in blacklist.

Strange.. your screenshot shows Nvidia GeForce 940M.
You have a desktop computer with additional Nvidia card?

Tomaz: I noticed some of your patches concerning blacklist drivers (see https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/log/?qt=grep&q=blacklist) but, if I see version number in blacklist, I don't see anything about the model.

+ It seems that Nvidia and Intel are present in the laptop.

Any thoughts?

As there is no ImplWinFontEntry::AddChunkOfGlyphs function any more in LibreOffice 5.1.3 the crash can't, strictly speaking, be the "same". Could you please try to get a stack trace also from the crash with 5.1.3, thanks!

Doesn't crash any longer in a fresh master or 5.1 build. As I see that the document tries to use the (obsolete non-scalable) 'MS Sans Serif' font, probably this is a duplicate of the other recent bugs related to non-scalable fonts.
