Created attachment 124919 [details] screenshot STR --- (1) Open new Writer document "Untitled 1". (2) Take menu option File > "Save as...". Program presents dialog "Save As" with default directory your home directory and default file name "Untitled 1"; the caret is at the start of the file name. (3) Type, without the spaces, "<Ctrl>+A /tmp <Enter>". (Yes, I know that this is not the right way to enter the directory name. I just confused myself while I was jumping between versions of LibreOffice.) Expected : The control for the directory name should show "/tmp". Observed : The program displays both the default value and "/tmp" overlaying each other. I see this as well in the Export dialog from Writer and Save-as dialog from Draw. This observation is from daily Linux dbgutil bibisect repository version 2016-05-08 running on debian stretch. I am setting severity minor because (a) the bad result is too obvious to cause confusion, and (b) the workaround is simply to enter the directory name in the directory name control.

Created attachment 124963 [details] screenshlot This screenshot is of daily Linux dbutil repository version 2016-05-10. The problem is more widespread than I realized before. In the toolbar observe controls for style, font name, and font size. I am raising the severity to Normal and changing summary from "overlaid dialog export pdf" to "characters overlaid in controls".
Thanks for looking into this bug in more detail. While unfortunately it wasn't followed up on, there's bug 99134, which appears to be the same issue, and the bug seems to be gone now. Please verify with 5.2.0.1.
Thank you, Aron, for the pointer. I am setting status RESO DUP 99134. I see the problem fixed in linux daily dbgutil repository version 2016-06-27. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 99134 ***
