Description ktatar156 2016-05-19 19:03:03 UTC
Hello,

It's my first bug/wishlist, I hope it's in good place.
Is there possibility to get Libreoffice software in Ubuntu Touch? I know that there is one working, but it's not full solution (it using some xmir session to 'simulate' desktop).
100% solution is to get native port of that office suite created in harmony with Ubuntu Touch APIs and GUI (i.e. adjusted to fit screen size - to get it working in phones/tablet mode and on external screen).

Developing a brand new mobile UI is not an effort that our volunteer developers are likely to undertake, but let’s not rule it out.

@Adolfo
I understand that doing it for free is not motivating. But maybe we should create some crowd-funding campaing? To do that we need to know how much $ we need; I'm not a programmer so I'll now even guest.

I second this motion. A LibreOffice version for Ubuntu Touch that supports convergence would be great. [convergence= The same application instantly switches between touch/tablet/smartphone UI and desktop UI depending on the availability of mouse, keyboard or external sceen].

There is substantial public demand: https://uappexplorer.com/wishlist
As of now, Libreoffice with convergence got 132 votes and is the 4th highest ranked apps on the wishlist.

Currently, Ubuntu Touch's document viewer uses LibreOffice Kit and full desktop LibreOffice runs on Ubuntu Touch, too.

A real convergent Libreoffice would be a killer feature (for both LibreOffice and Ubuntu Touch)

Yes, it would be the killer! :) But how can we help with that?
What do You think about my idea in Comment 2?

I think now that Ubuntu Touch is not a Ubuntu project any more, this bug can be close as wontfix. Do you agree?...
