Created attachment 192717 [details] Bug report with screenshot plus how it could be enhanced When *All Commands* is selected under *Category* and you search for "Headings", "Heading 1", ... are not found. You first have to scroll down to *Styles*, open its collapse subcategories, select *Paragraph* there. Then searching for "Headings" finds "Heading 1", ... I expect to find everything with what has been entered under *Functions*, i.e. even a partial match. This part is a bug report. My attachment contains some more ideas how to enhance the dialog. Presently it is very cumbersome.
Regards current state that not all categories are consolidated into a single searchable list. IIRC Maxim had added customization for Styles and Macros as for bug 106681 [1], and Jim had added customization for the SB decks for keyboard shortcuts for bug 84502 [2] My understanding is that these types of customizations did not lend themselves to being included with the other UNO based controls so required separate handling in the UI (and unfortunately not available to a global All commands search). Not sure they can be consolidated into a global searchable list of commands. But looked over attachment 192717 [details]: Yes, a reasonable suggestion to toggle filter the short cut keys listed. Not a fan of a two column listing (you have a scroll bar already). Some merit to an alternative to the "All commands" listing, to show an "All current" assignments listing. =-ref-= [1] https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/37422/ [2] https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/100455
Separating Styles and Macros from UNO commands makes sense - and adding more categories for the large list too. Regarding the UI we have bug 115527 and https://design.blog.documentfoundation.org/2015/01/22/how-to-make-libreoffice-customization-usable/ for some ideas. Please comment on this ticket (ideally directly on BZ and not with a document). *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 115527 ***

This exactly is what caused me to post this bug. In the sentences that follow in your essay the cited one, you show how cumbersome the workflow is in Customize>Keyboard. The discussion on 115527 practically fell asleep in 2019. Perhaps because its scope is so wide: "customization". After 2019, there were only findings of "duplicates". Interestingly they all refer to the shortcut bindings. Assigning keyboard shortcuts happens only very seldom. I only took notice of that when it had been changed without justification in the German UI, especially breaking the easily to memorize Shortcuts for Headings 1, ... and Ctrl-F for find.
Yes, it's a large topic and so far no volunteer was interested in the effort. Thanks for commenting on the other ticket.
