Description MI 2015-04-30 12:53:12 UTC
Currently, to freeze title/header rows or columns, the procedure is extremely unintuitive. One has to select a cell below or to the right of the title row or column, and look into the Window menu.

The context-menu of a row or column should have an entry like "freeze row as title" ("freeze column as title") or something similar. And that should of course freeze the selected row/column.

In version 5 is freeze button on the toolbar.
I think it's sufficient?

The button is helpful and probably much easier to find than the menu entry.

But it doesn't solve the main problem: you still cannot select what you really want (the header row or column) but need to select something else (a cell below/to the right). And then you have to know what to look for (menu or button).

I think it's doing exactly what you want:
 - select whole row/column
 - click button
 - row/column freeze

Please download a dev version here: http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/ and try this function. You can install dev version alongside standard version.

UX team - another item in menu? I think button is sufficient, but please take a look...
Thanks.

Presently if you highlight row 1 and 2 and press freeze, it will freeze only row 1 because the cursor is in cell A2. So it would be useful to improve the function so that it takes into consideration row selection and not just cursor cell location when its doing the freezing.

About the context menu part, no isnt a feature that should be in the context menu as it isnt a feature used often enough to warrant inclusion in it.

I would prefere a item in the contextmenu of rows and columsn, too.
There are different type of users using an UI in different ways. For me a context menu is very important and always the first thing I am looking in when searching for a feature.

> it isnt a feature used often enough to warrant inclusion in it

Does this argument has evidence or is it just your opinion? Do you have numbers from the user statistics or telemetrie of LO?

Was added in 6.2 at least so this bug can be closed.
