OpenOffice as well as LibreOffice is dead slow when I use mutter for window management (which is awkward because the UI could even use hardware acceleration). I'm not sure what the cause is - but I have seen the menus flicker quite a bit - which makes me suspicious that they are rebuild constantly. I remember that Compiz has some extra OpenOffice compatibility switches - so maybe LibreOffice is still doing some awkward things.
I've used it some month without problems. But switched because mutter has a overall bad performance compared to other WMs...
