LibreOffice 3.3.0 OOO330m19 (Build:6) tag libreoffice-184.108.40.206
1. Type a number into a cell.
2. Select the cell and the cell to its right.
3. Double-click the little autofill box at the bottom-right of the selection.
4. Autofill should fill to the right.
4. Autofill fills downward, ignoring the selection.
Reproduction requires a text in the cells to the left of the first selected cell and the next cell in that column.
OR observed behaviour:
4. Autofill does nothing.
Reproducable if no text to the left. This is especially annoying when it fails to autofill cells like [1,2,3,,,,,,]
When autofill is run on a selected row, it currently seems to assume that the user intends to fill the selected row downwards.
I propose instead that the autofill fill to the right within the selection in the case of certain selections where it can be inferred that the user intends to fill to the right; the problem is in defining the cases where this can be inferred. Ideas:
* A selection where the rightmost column is empty.
* A selection where autofill would otherwise do nothing.
* A selection in which Calc would have autofilled to the right had the user started with a selection of the non-blank left column(s) and dragged the autofill handle to the right to create the selection, instead of selecting the larger area first and then double-clicking autofill.
Effect reproducible with "LibreOffice 3.3.0 RC4 - WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) German UI [OOO330m19 (build 6 / tag 220.127.116.11)]". But I do not know whether uatofill with double click is the intended behaviour
A first test.

actual: 'B5:C6' becomes selected, "2" appears in 'B6' as reported
Bug or feature?
Can you provide a HELP text reference concerning intended behaviour
The help text taken from this url reads as follows:
"You can double-click the fill handle to automatically fill all empty columns of the current data block. For example, first enter Jan into A1 and drag the fill handle down to A12 to get the twelve months in the first column. Now enter some values into B1 and C1. Select those two cells, and double-click the fill handle. This fills automatically the data block B1:C12."
Since the example is of filling below the selected text, and there is no discussion in the help of autofilling the selection itself, I am reclassifying this report as an enhancement request.
Currently cafter heaving read Help text I believe that autofill here works as intended.

This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases.
Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at:

needinfo keyword redundant by needinfo status.
Dear bug submitter!
Due to the fact, that there are a lot of NEEDINFO bugs with no answer within the last six months, we close all of these bugs.
To keep this message short, more infos are available @ https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/NeedinfoClosure#Statement
Thanks for understanding and hopefully updating your bug, so that everything is prepared for developers to fix your problem.
reopening because it is RFE
Confirming as enhancement request. Marking as NEW and prioritizing as Medium as I think it's a functional request but might be very hard to implement. Will require assuming when and how a user thinks which has already been discussed by David.
@Sasha -- please don't reopen bugs unless there is a real reason to do so. We recently went through a large closing of old bugs that hadn't been commented on for much much too long. Only the user, a dev or a QA person who has been involved should be reopening these bugs that were autoclosed.
I am not sure if this is the right bug to compare to what I am having a problem with. I am using Linux, Ubuntu, 18.104.22.168 build 3, if that matters, and am more used to excel... so it may be that I am just used to autofilling a certain way and have been having to redo a lot of data recently while using a few functions here.
So, first problem: When dragging to fill selections below in Excel, I can then right click and choose to add 1 or keep the same, or if the info is a date, add day, moth or year... but in Calc I am not getting this function to work at all, except to add 1 to whatever I am doing... Thus, when doing monthly statements I have had to set up temporary columns, adding 21, then redefining to figure the end of the month, to add months... time consuming.
Second Problem: I think it is AutoFilter... but when I click on the select all to deselect all, select a certain item group, such as bank xy, edit the info and drag it due to an account change, such as a customer changing which account they are now using to pay me with, then select all, and let the page reshow... all the data becomes corrupted in that column where I changed the data. The latest was where all the data between the range of cells was blanked. This again has cost me much time reloading the affected cells, and has caused me to start making a copy of my data, changing the one file, opening the second file for side by side, and then copy and paste the fields.
I know now I should take screen shots but am not advanced in all this bug reporting. Thus I am not sure if this is a bug, or the way that it is supposed to work in LibreOffice, or if I am simply wanting an enhancement that no one else needs.
Open Office and Gnumeric are all doing the same but Excel is not... so is it a Linux problem with databases or is it something else? I do too many worksheets where I sometimes have to change a field like a discount on sales or a percentage on interest for a particular customer yet need to see several customers on a worksheet, and having all change when only a couple of rows were picked is rather a problem... I have just had to spend a weekend going over 6 months of accounts, changing them to Excel, and then doing the changes, to change them back to the ODF systems... not cool...
Well patches are more than welcome and that would be "quite cool." This is an open source project powered by volunteers - saying things like "not cool" - doesn't help anything, doesn't encourage others to volunteer, and doesn't move us closer to a solution. So - that being said, the code is available, feel free to contribute back to the community
Adding self to CC if not already on
This is a request to autofill to the right.
That's not usual spreadsheet function. FWIS, it's mostly solved via macro.
I'm in favor of keeping RFE for anything that may be useful ut this one is in my view out of realistic dev scope.

So let's resolve as WF. Over the years it also hasn't received much attention from users.
