Description Alexander Wilms 2011-06-12 08:23:15 UTC
At the moment the user can only choose from a few predefined color patterns, but it would be nice to change those.

Indeed, number of styles for DRAW / Presentation tables seem to be very limited.

Indeed, not much, only 11. In msOffice almost 77.
IMHO for users more important ability to create own color patterns or import them than using predefined. But they also important.

MS office has much more colors in general .

See pictures for LibreOffice and MS.

Maybe it would be nice to see new and previous color in "format cells" window. Right now there is only newly selected color in preview window. MS office has both.

LibreOffice now has more colors. But maybe they can be better organized? Like green together, blue also,... Right now they are scattered ?

Tested in 4.4.3.2 version

Recently the table styles have been introduced. And you can change the cell background per context menu "Table..." or per menu Format > Area.

But the consistency with other modules how to format tables is missing. At least the sidebar has to provide quick access to the table properties (e.g. Writer has Paragraph > Background color) and the context menu should be consistent with other modules (Draw: "Table...", Writer: "Table Properties...").

But we should reconsider the complete workflow in order to improve the UX.

Removing needsUX: the table styles should be implemented equally across the modules allowing the same workflow including editing capabilities.

The introduction in LO 7.5 of various right-click options to the available Table Designs, and the ability to add new designs to the list, should cover this report in my opinion.
