The Tools -> Outline Numbering dialog needs usability improvement. For links and examples see closed report #54188. In short, there's confusion between the Level combo box and what the drop box for Paragraph Style does. How does the user place a custom paragraph on a certain level? It seems this is not clear for users. As indicated by http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=10692 and #54188 there also seems to be bugs in this area. Created attachment 66923 [details] Test case. The dialog is faulty because what you want is several styles on the same level, but Paragraph Style dropbox only allows only one entry to be chosen. In the attached test case Custom Heading 2 doesn't appear at all in the Navigator nor TOC, and the Outline Numbering dialog only allows one entry for level 2 (currently Heading 2), while the user wants Heading 2 and Custom Heading 2 to appear on level 2. Hence there might be bugs, feature incompleteness and usability issue in this area.
I would add the test case to the test suite such that this scenario gets baselined, for starters.
What you're pointing out isn't a usability issue, it's a feature request. The index is not set up to do what you're asking so it's an additional feature. Marking as: New (confirmed) Enhancement (additional feature, not a bug with a current feature) Low (quite hard to implement, little interest from other users to have it, in a year no other user has requested nor commented here, in general I'd argue most people want a single level to have same style as part of the point of levels is to be consistent throughout document). Basically you want a one to many relationship between level and styles. Thanks for the suggestion, we'll see if anyone takes it on and apologies for the delay to get to the triage work on it
