In the screenshot are shown the differences. The .doc is the file with the different views.

Problem description:

Steps to reproduce:
1. I open a documenti, made for MS-Word XP
2. There are fonts compressed in a figure, that aren't in MS-Word.

Current behavior: fonts in a figure are compressed

Expected behavior: I should see the document like in MS-Word, without compressed fonts.

[Reproducible] with "LibreOffice 3.6.4.3" German UI/ German Locale [Build-ID: 2ef5aff] {pull date 2012-11-28} on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit):

Texts in picture 'tx_id_13_" look in a strange way narrow with very tall characters.

The problem has nothing to do with .doc, its a .wmf problem. I extracted the .wmf (see attached "problemcausing_200000620005A6F10001B215A12FD2C0.wmf").
When you insert that picture into a A0 landscape empty.dwg (original size of picture might be 236,14cm / 101,24cm width/height?) you see that the chracters have a nice width/hight ratio, but the ratio of the complete picture has width/hight ratio 3:1, instead of more or less 1:1 in the text document table.

May be that ratio is wrong? When I open the wmf in IrfanView, the green "A+" bar has a width/heigh ration of 2.5 what is more or less the same as in the WORD document.

In " empty.dwg " (see above) with picture original size the green "A+" bar has a width/heigh ration of 5

So I think the root of the problem is a wrong with/height ratio of the drawing elements in the wmf when opened in LibO.

The effect is not new, I see the same with OOo 1.1.5. so if it's a bug, it's inherited from OOo.

I see the same problem with “Lotus Symphony Release 3.0.1 Revision 20120110.2000” on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)
and
AOOo 3.4.1

Extracted .wmf

I can't be 100% sure that the problem did not come into the .wmf when I extracted it from the Word.doc

Doesn't look like a metafile problem for me.
WMF is properly rendered in LO now.
I resaved to DOCX and extracted _E_MF files.
EMF file for the image in question is also rendered properly in LO.
However, the text is squeezed if DOC or DOCX is opened in Writer.

For me the document looks exactly the same as in MS Word for Mac:
