Created attachment 72886 [details] Screenshot comparing different PDF files of the same document Problem description: A space is missing in a PDF file generated by LibreOffice 4.0.0.1. However, in LibreOffice 3.6.4.3, the space is present. This is a software regression. Steps to reproduce: 1. The operating system used is Linux debian 2.6.32-5-686 #1 SMP Sun Sep 23 09:49:36 UTC 2012 i686 GNU/Linux. 2. The LibreOffice versions involved are: - LibreOffice Version 3.6.4.3 (Build ID: 2ef5aff) (LO3.6.4) - LibreOffice Version 4.0.0.1 (Build ID: 527dba6f6e0cfbbc71bd6e7b88a52699bb48799) (LO4.0.0.1) 3. The document involved is: http://www.voltscommissar.net/docs/Leonard_Stretton-1939_Bush_Fires_Royal_Commission_Report.odt 4. File -> Open -> (that document) 5. File -> Export as PDF -> PDF/A-1a -> Export 6. Use DiffPDF to compare the PDF files of the same document. 7. Copy and paste the text in a text editor to see the difference. 8. On page two of the PDF files, in LO4.0.0.1, Lands of Forests Commission, Board of Works, and other Public Authorities .. .. .. in LO3.6.4, Lands of Forests Commission, Board of Works, and other Public Authorities .. .. .. Current behavior: A space is missing after the word Authorities in LO4.0.0.1. Expected behavior: A space should be present after the word Authorities in LO4.0.0.1. I am submitting the screenshot comparing the PDF files. Regards, C. H. D.
Added "regression". Regards, C. H. D.

it looks like the entire pdf export is borked with 4. I just tested your document and it came out with 2 different page counts (36 vs. 40) despite both libreoffice 3.6 and 4.0 showing the odt as 36 pages. Something strange is happening for sure. Marking as: New (confirmed) Major (regression of a major component - pdf export) Highst (regression, can prevent high quality work, pdf's different from libreoffice odt) Regression bibisectrequest
NOT reproducible with parallel installation of "LOdev 4.0.0.1 rc - GERMAN UI / German Locale [Build ID: 527dba6f6e0cfbbc71bd6e7b88a52699bb48799)]" {tinderbox: @6, pull time 2013-01-10(?)} on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) with separate /40 User Profile for Master Branch, totally the same PDF export result as with 3.6.4.3. I think reporter's observations are wrong. In source document there are not 2 spaces after the word "Authorities", but a Space and then a TAB. @webofht-libreofficebugs002 Please add a hint how you created your 2 Lines in original report "in LO4.0.0.1," / "in LO3.6.4, " Additionally it might be interesting to know your PDF export settings. It would be great if you could attach a single page PDF report from both versions. @Joel: In Export from WIN both Exports have 40 pages, but these things also can be PDF Font related?

There are some bytes different size between reporter's samples 2013-01-15 15:46 UTC, but I did lots of tests, in "Lands of Forests ..." Line I can't see any difference, and DiffPDF indicates identical documents. Currently I am tending to close this bug, impossible to reproduce, unclear whether bug at all. Removed bibisectrequest, currently not reproducible. @webofht: (In reply to comment #7) a) Please don' cite so much, lots of citing only bloats the report. Simply write to what comment you want to answer and then tell us your info b) You already wrote in original report that you used PDF/A-1a, no need to repeat, the other settings might be interesting. c) You are sure that you compared your 1 page sample documents? d) of course I am sure that it is a TAB. Click 'Show Nonprinting Characters' in LibO Standare Toolbar, Delete some characters in word "Commission" and see what happens. e) Still waiting for info how you created the 2 Text lines in original report "Lands of Forests ...". From where did you copy? @Joel: x) Did you really observe exactly reporter's problem with a missing space or only "some weird effects with page number"? y) Please mention carefully to use whiteboard key words in correct spelling (copy / paste), here "bibisectrequest", not "bibisectrequested". With wrong spelling Queries and feeds will fail
@Rainer - apologies for misspelling :-/ I'll be more careful I thought I saw the same behavior, but maybe I was mistaken. I'll defer to your judgment on this one
Created attachment 73131 [details] Copy text from Document Viewer 2.30.3 When copying the text from Document Viewer 2.30.3, the difference is shown.
(In reply to comment #10) Copying from What document(s)? Single page or 40 pages? It is really necessary to contribute clear information. I did my own tests with "Document Viewer 2.30.3". If there is a problem it is a "1 blank to much in export from LibO 4.0" problem, see Comment 4. I see the difference shown in reporters att. 2013-01-16 01:20 UTC, but currently that is only visible in "Document Viewer 2.30.3", not with Adobe Reader. So that's a "Document Viewer 2.30.3" problem, not our one. ARX does not show this difference. So I close this one NOTOURBUG for now. But I see something else what might be worth to submit a different bug, and might lead back to this one later: I opened both att. 2013-01-15 15:45 UTC in ARX, same zoom, same window size, same focus. Switching between the documents, in Export from LibO 4.0 the width of the characters seems to be a very little bit bigger. This observation is the same with "Document Viewer 2.30.3" and "ARX". But I can't reproduce this observation with own sample documents. @webofht-libreofficebugs002 It would be great if you could do some research concerning these observations and if you can confirm them you should submit a new bug (and add me to CC)
