Example of white text appearing as black on handout printouts from Impress.

When printing handouts of slides from Impress, white text appears as black on a number of slides, with no obvious connection between the slides with this problem.

I am using LibreOffice on Mac OSX but tested on a machine running Ubuntu 12.10 and the same problem occurs.

Example of the problem slides attached, please not the content is **COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL**
Comment 1 Emily Maher 2013-04-12 10:13:02 UTC
Problem also occurs when printing Notes.
Comment 2 Joel Madero 2013-04-12 15:31:36 UTC
I recommend removing the confidential file and uploading a fresh, very simple, sample file that demonstrates the problem. Everything on FDO is public so confidential stuff is usually not recommended.

Also in the future please provide explicit steps on how to reproduce a bug, even if it seems straight forward to you, for QA it helps if it's a list of steps to get the exact same result.

Lastly, when uploading test documents, please upload both your pdf print as well as the original document so that we can try the same print and see if we get identical results.

Going to try to reproduce now, thanks for reporting, don't mean to be harsh, just wanted to be clear on what makes it easier for QA to triage bugs quickly :)

Hi Joel, thank you for your response and tips – it is good to know how to help!

I have attached a slide that was affected by the issue, the white text appeared as black on Handout and Notes printouts – it also changed to grey when opened on a colleagues Ubuntu machine and had to be manually changed back to white.

Many thanks.
Comment 5 Emily Maher 2013-04-12 15:39:58 UTC
p.s. the grey colour was colleagues 'Automatic' colour, but I don't know why Libre Office changed what had been set to white – should I report this as a separate bug?

Thanks again.
Comment 6 Joel Madero 2013-04-12 16:01:36 UTC
I have been able to confirm the issue on:
Version 3.6.5.2
Platform: Bodhi Linux 2.2 x64

As I've been able to confirm this problem on an earlier release I am changing the version number as version is the earliest version that we can confirm the bug, we use comments to say that the bug exists in newer versions as well.

Marking as:

New (confirmed)
Major - prevents high quality work for one of the most important features of our suite (printing)

There are also other ways to get involved including with marketing, UX, documentation, and of course developing - http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/.

Lastly, good bug reports help tremendously in making the process go smoother, please always provide reproducible steps (even if it seems easy) and attach any and all relevant material

Thorsten or Radek - want to poke around at this one, not being able to print correctly is quite serious IMO
Comment 8 Joel Madero 2013-04-12 16:37:02 UTC
hm, was your file set to automatic or manually set to "white", if it was set to white and it changed to auto on your colleagues machine, indeed that would be another bug :(
Comment 9 Emily Maher 2013-04-12 16:42:41 UTC
Hi Joel, yes I had manually set all text to white in my file but this was overridden by the 'auto' grey on (now two different) colleague's machine.

I will submit another bug for this issue.

Thanks.
Comment 10 Joel Madero 2013-04-12 16:51:42 UTC
if you put me on cc of that bug I will triage it as well :)
Comment 11 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2013-04-13 15:19:15 UTC
Hm, I have some problems to understand the problem. I simply _see_ the text "leading in cloud" in black color in 'Outline' and 'Notes' view for Sample Document "2013-04-12 15:36 UTC, Emily Maher". So for me not the printing, but the VIEWING seems to be buggy?
Under WIN I see that already with OOo 2.0.2, and that seems to be the same as AOOo#76266 - Notes view does not inherit the forground text color of normal view.

@Emily, Joel
Is me expectation concerning the core of the problem correct?
Comment 12 Emily Maher 2013-04-15 09:00:13 UTC
Hi Rainer, the text appeared as black in my print preview then also printed out as black – even though it was white in the file. This occurred in 'Notes' view and also 'Handouts' view, though full page printouts were fine and printed white, as in the file.

Resetting importance.

I think it is at least dubious if that actually is a bug or if this was actually implemented deliberately. Web browsers usually do the same when printing very light colours, to make sure text is visible. So ~... not sure.

OSX 10.10.3 + LO Version: 4.5.0.0.alpha0+

when printing the "White test here prints as black" test document it shows correctly as seen in the presentation.

WFM. But if this persists for you on OSX 10.10.3 + latest LO nightly build, please re-open.
