Problem description: www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/ has no link to search for existing bugs at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ This results in duplicate bug reports. Of course, not everyone will perform such a search but for those that do so fewer duplicate bug reports will be created. Steps to reproduce: 1. .... 2. .... 3. .... Current behavior: Expected behavior: Operating System: All Version: (See in Summary)
I agree. Brought this up already with QA at a meeting, not sure what the turn-out was from what discussion. I think that would be an important improvement. Somehow we need to get people to look stronger for existing bugs first before creating a new bug. Much too many duplicates are currently created.
However, when a person enters a bug, he gets the chance to see some bugs which may have the same report as their bug. Does this fix your problem or is it something else? Changing this to 'NEEDINFO'?
@Jean: This is indeed fixed by the feature you mention. Thus setting this to RESOLVED FIXED. But there's more to be done: There is an idea in the QA-Ideas Wiki to make BSA suggest existing bugs that might match the BSA bug currently being created. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Projects/Ideas#Idea:_make_BSA_suggest_existing_bugs_that_might_match_the_BSA_bug_currently_being_created We'll have to see how and when that is approached. But since this is not included in this bug report and bug reports only cover a single issue I think it's good to have this on the ideas page. The QA team will eventually deal with it when it finds the time.

Created attachment 79999 [details] Does not always work
As you can see from the screenshot the Bug submission assistant is not really a search tool as the user can only select from drop down lists and not enter any search strings, thus, the "search" results are not really granular enough to be useful. As noted at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BSA is mainly an easy way to report a bug and does not include all the functionality of bugzilla. Also, per screenshot 2 from earlier today it does not always work. My suggestion is simply to include an appropriately labeled link from www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/ to bugzilla so a user might take advantage of the full power of bugzilla which might reduce duplicates. Also, if the Bug submission assistant is not working then I suggest the user be redirected to bugzilla.
Hi brucehohl, this is what I tried to point out. If you go via https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=LibreOffice&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED then enter a summary, you'll see that FDO suggests existing bugs that might match your description. In my statement I explained that the other bug entering platform BSA does not have this functionality yet. If you want, please search for an existing bug here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/buglist.cgi?bug_status=__open__&product=LibreOffice&query_format=specific&order=changeddate%20DESC%2Cbug_status%2Cpriority%2Cassigned_to%2Cbug_id&list_id=306200 If you don't find an existing bug, you may create a new bug for the BSA problem not showing suggestions of existing issue. In both cases please add a link to the new (or existing) bug to the wiki containing the idea to improve just that: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Projects/Ideas#Idea:_make_BSA_suggest_existing_bugs_that_might_match_the_BSA_bug_currently_being_created Thanks for your help :)
