Description haevalencia 2013-07-13 07:12:49 UTC
Currently there are problems in the export in SVG format, especially for use with LO Impress.

There are problems in the bug mentioned as Bug 61314. In one of your comments (5) there is a good idea and would be appropriate to report it as an improvement.

Just as in the export to PDF, it would be good to add a menu export to SVG format. It has great capabilities and options that can be exploited (especially in Impress).

One option is the way to export the presentation: current page, pages x ... y, all, "pages as layers", "grid pages" pages as individual files, and more.

the idea of using sozi to reuse the presentation is very good, imagine creating a photo albun with Impress, SVG export everything and create a new presentation effects sozi and hang it on our blog.

The idea can be applied to other image formats, but SVG can be extended especially for their special abilities.

Perhaps a series of dialogs like those displayed for File > Export... > File Type of "HTML Document"? Agreed and confirmed. Status set to NEW. Version set to Inherited From OOo as this feature has never existed.

Setting version back from "Inherited From OOo" to what it was prior (for bugs marked enhancement), for QA tracking purposes. My mistake. Apologies.

UX-team, please look at it

I wouldn't expose the SVG on the menu root like PDF. It's just another file type and if we show this one could easily ask for compatibility and want pptx there.

However, when this is about a properties dialog that shows up after SVG was selected for saving, a dialog similar to print or PDF, it sounds reasonable. The dialog could take the sections Range and Images from the PDF options for now.

Heiko, you also have bug 117708 comment 4 on a very similar topic.

Could you maybe clarify what is preferred now? Contrary to back in 2018, we now have a "File > Export as..." submenu in Impress. So do we want to show a new dialog:
- both with a new "Export as SVG..." entry in that submenu, and the usual "File > Export > SVG"; or
- only when using "File > Export > SVG"
?

I was going to open a new bug report about making "all slides" the default when exporting as SVG, as a first step, but it's not satisfactory as some users might want a single slide, and the "selection" option is for selected objects, not slides.

I like the idea of the "File > Export as" submenu listing the recommended formats for an all-slides export (PDF and SVG).

I guess a first version of such a dialog can be quite simple, basing it on the current PDF dialog:

Range:
(·) All slides
( ) Slides: [ ] (could be auto-populated by the current Slide Pane selection)
( ) Selected objects only

Alternatively:

Range:
(·) All slides
( ) Slides: [ ]
( ) Selected slides
( ) Current slide
( ) Selected objects only

Further options can be added later, but my understanding is that this issue now has more priority given that the HTML export wizard was removed for bug 105303.

SVG export is a niche feature for geeks and I think it's not worth quick-access under SaveAs. Not much love has been put in this feature in the past years...

The range choice is relevant anyway but should apply to all formats. While the mentioned dialog sounds reasonable I think it wont be appealing. How about another option in the file dialog "[ ] Export all slides/pages" that creates the SVG slideshow or multiple raster graphics? (This option needs to disable the current "[ ] Selection".)
