ms word file with mail merge fields (.doc version)

mail merge fields are correctly read by libreoffice in .doc/.dot files but this compatibility seems to broken in .docx/.dotx files

when a mail merge field from a .docx file is read by libreoffice is displayed as plain text

I have checked it using ms office 2007 to convert a document between .doc and .docx formats and the problem seems to be in libreoffice. I pass the documents as test case

the first libreoffice version in which I have seen the problem is 3.6.3 but in 4.1.1 the problem is still present

best regards

I can confirm that this bug still exists in 4.2.1.1, but seems to have been fixed somewhere between that and 4.2.3.1.
Comment 3 Kasper Fabæch Brandt 2014-03-18 22:18:06 UTC
Actually the bug still persisted in 4.2.2.1. From a quick glance at the history my guess is that it was fixed by 50945ba ( https://github.com/LibreOffice/core/commit/50945ba67bf6dec66b1ed33011316e0fc9197572 ).
Comment 4 pasqual milvaques 2014-03-19 14:27:58 UTC
It seems to work in 4.2.3.1 as you say. the behavior of libreoffice seems to have changed also in relation to conditional text fields, now is better although still not functional. conditional fields are part of the openxml (ISO/IEC
29500-1, 17.16.5.26) so it's desirable to have good support for them also, but that would be another bug, of course.

from my point of view this bug can be closed, thanks :)

I'm having this problem as well. I have a document originally created in Word 2003 with a merge field. When the file is re-saved, whether it was edited or not as a Word 2003 document, it loses the connection to the Edit Fields, Mail Merge Fields.

We would need to see this document. Would it be possible to anonymize in Word and share here publicly?
