Description Urmas 2013-10-30 11:31:07 UTC
There must be an option to use the store compression for ZIP files created. It is very important for reliability in case of document corruption.

Please, could you elaborate ?

Best regards. JBF

If a ZIP archive is corrupted, all compressed data within are lost. If the said archive uses store mode, i.e. no compression, the document can be restored manually.

I think it wouldn't hurt to add a zip compression option to "Experts Config" for those that want it.

Marking as NEW - valid enhancement request.

Also, uncompressed save files could be compressed much better with other methods, see bug 103144.
Comment 6 Thomas Lendo 2019-08-16 22:56:06 UTC
In bug 103144 comment 3 I learnt that an odf file contains compressed and uncompressed files. Is it allowed to save all files uncompressed?

@Regina: What do you say? If it's not allowed we must close this bug as WF.

I'd add that an option to save documents to uncompressed folders would be useful too. I know that there is the Flat ODT feature but I believe that this option could be really better for (sub)versioning purposes.

Instead of creating a compressed archive this "format" it should create a folder with all the files which would have been inserted in the ODT (zip) file.

Otherwise (or both) could be good to have another option to link images by default, instead of including them in the file AND a last one to let the link be relative (path instead of absolute).

This would let the FODT more compact and readable both for humans and versioning systems.

Maybe this script could be useful for the topic:
