Description narayanaras 2013-12-26 09:40:45 UTC
I am writing a multilingual document, and thus had to use the Google Input Tools. This is how I came across this bug.

Steps to replicate:

A. SETTING UP (not part of the problem).
=============================================================================
1. Install Google Input Tools. Install >= 2 languages.
2. Launch a new odt file (or edit an existing file- Does not matter).
3. Set keyboard shortcuts
   I have set the shortcuts as follows:
   ALT+SHFT+1=Sanskrit, ALT+SHFT+2=kannada,ALT+SHFT+3=Gujarati,ALT+SHFT+4=Hindi.
   ALT+SHFT+0= English
   (I do not think the shortcuts are causing the issue, but just in case...)

B. TRIAL RUN (not part of the problem):
=============================================================================
1. Change the language to a non-English language (e.g. Hindi).
2. Type a few letters (these appear in the Writer screen).
3. Press Enter, and the new text appears in the odt file. ---> This is OK.

C. ACTUAL PROBLEM
=============================================================================
1. Again type some more text, but this time press ESC (not ENTER).
   In response, the cursor vanishes. You cannot tell where you are.
   If you type now, the new characters appear where the cursor was.

2. One trick is to press CTRL and roll the mouse wheel.
   As soon as the zoom changes, the cursor re-appears.
************************************************************************
If you repeat this exact experiment in MS Word, the problem is not there.
If you switch to English, the problem does not occur.

BTW I noticed a major difference between LO Writer and MS Word:
When I am typing in a non-English language, the text appears "live" in LO Writer. But in MS Word, the text does not appear till I press ENTER.

This could be a key factor.

Based on the intersection of Google Input Tools supported OSes and LO supported OSes, changing OS -> Windows.

Narayanaras,
Are you still having the issue with modern versions of LibreOffice and the Google Input Tools?
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If so, please change Status back to 'UNCONFIRMED', otherwise change it to RESOLVED WORKSFORME.
Thanks!
