Interesting concept. Will make it easier to select multiple entire lines, rather than dragging from beginning to end.

After a bit of testing, it seems like this works somewhat differently now in Writer:

- if there are paragraph level DF settings to be copied, they are copied to the target paragraph with a single click on the left margin, see my test file attachment 193458 [details]
This behavior is new since 24.2 commit:
tdf#103706: sw: Revert "Format paintbrush default behaviour"

- if there are character level DF settings, those are not copied with a single click

- if one is dragging the mouse on the left margin, both character and paragraph level settings are copied

- In Word, only character level formatting is copied whether you click once or drag it to other rows.
