My computer automatically upgraded from 4.2.6 to 4.2.7 since it's supposed to be a "stale" release with only security and bug fixes. For some reason, the perfectly good sorting was changed to one that is scrambling users spreadsheets.As I've been saving over my old spreadsheet, now I've lost all my work for the week. It's very unprofessional to make a change like this to the stable line. This release should be pulled from the download site and replaced with 4.2.6 until you can straighten out your sorting bugs.
Andrew This likely stems from Bug 81633 and is similar to Bug 85614. Can you please attach a sample of one of your scrambled spreadsheets along with a description of how to sort it? JBF, Do you need more test cases for Bug 85490?

From those complaining against the change in 4.2.7 (bug 81309), I think no, unless there is case where sorting produce an _unrecoverable_ disorganization of the spreadsheet which can be seen as a dataloss. From those needing this change, yes because I still not have a clear use-case from real life in which this change is needed. Best regards. JBF
@Jean-Baptiste Faure Thank you for your concern. The problem is you can only undo if you haven't pressed the save button. Also, I use my spreadsheets by copy and pasting data into the tables that need to be sorted. By the time I noticed anything was wrong, formulas had been totally scrambled by 4.2.7. Did you know the undo sort in 4.2.7 is buggy? I use this feature all the time, but now it only partially undoes the sort. How can you do this to a stable releases? People choice LTS and stable releases so they can do work, not be bug testers. For my home computer that's fine, but not for when I want to do some work. I will check with my boss tomorrow to see if I can attach my spreadsheet to this report. Thanks for you help and understanding!
Hi Andrew, I didn't write "undo" but "restore". In cases like attachment 108255 [details] it is enough to propagate the formula from the top of the mangled column. What is your OS. I guess it is Linux (<-automatic update), but which distribution? Best regards. JBF
