We have a preview of images in the insert image dialog box and in a similar way it would be useful to have an document preview in the open document dialog. For ODF files, an image of the document is stored in the ODF, so that could easily been displayed, but i assume it maybe more difficult for other document types.
This bug is a tad broad I reckon:
* It needs code for handling the feature in Windows’ native dialog
* Ditto for GTK+’s native dialog
* Ditto for KDE’s native dialog (when we properly support KDE anyway)
* Ditto for LibreOffice’s dialog.
Maybe this could be an idea for the next GSoC.
a next step would be to have the file open/close as a special entity of the start center?
Neat request, but please be sure to add a checkbox to disable the preview.
This checkbox should be persistent between sessions. This will make the document preview consistent with the current insert image dialog.
I've noticed in the insert image dialog, some complex svg file previews can take a very long time to render. While the preview is rendering, ui movement is completely frozen. This is at least true for the native LibreOffice dialogs.
Though i didnt state it, yes the checkbox to disable the preview would be a must so that people who dont care to see the preview can disable it.
