Description Mike Sapsard 2014-12-31 16:05:09 UTC
I discovered in an earlier version of 4.3 that I could create a complex shape (Christmas tree) in Draw, fill it with text and import it to Write. This worked well and I was able to edit the text in Write.

When I upgraded to 4.3.4 the text disappeared from the shape in Write.

I have now installed 4.3.5.2 and tried to repeat the process:

Create a complex shape in Draw (Now I cannot add points)
Fill it with text
Import to Write

This no longer works.

I cannot add an attacment because all of the old files I have tried have been damaged. I cannot create new files, or I have forgotten exactly what I did before.

Mike: here are instructions for installing an older version alongside your current one: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel/Linux

Please create a working example file in an older version so we can test. Set status back to UNCONFIRMED after attaching the file.

Text file containing shapes with internal text.

Both files produced in LibreOffice 4.2.2.1. Shapes were produced in Draw and moved to Writer.

When opened in 4.3.5.2 the text no longer appeared in the shapes.
Comment 5 Mike Sapsard 2015-02-05 19:49:54 UTC
Files created in 4.2.2.1. Shapes were copied from Draw to Writer.

When opened in 4.3.5.2 the text no longer appeared in the shapes.

Confirmed in 4.3.5.2, but the text appears in 4.4.

Can you test with 4.3.6 and 4.4? Change to RESOLVED WORKSFORME, if the problem went away.

Tested with:

Win 7 Pro 64-bit, LibO Version: 4.4.0.3
Build ID: de093506bcdc5fafd9023ee680b8c60e3e0645d7

Ubuntu 14.10 64-bit
Version: 4.4.0.3
Build ID: 40m0(Build:3)

Version: 4.3.5.2
Build ID: 3a87456aaa6a95c63eea1c1b3201acedf0751bd5
Comment 7 Mike Sapsard 2015-02-06 20:38:01 UTC
Tested in 4.3.6.1 and 4.4.0.3. Files open, save and open again correctly.

I changed textbox colour and line type and they worked.

Tested in Linux Mint 17.1 on an Intel i7 PC.

Looks good.

Although the shapes with text are now handled correctly in Writer, there seem to be associated bugs. Draw 4.2.2.1 now appears unable to add text to a polygon shape.

4.3.6 and 4.4.0 also cannot add text to a polygon. I'll check other bugs and add it if necessary.

No problem here. Anyways, that issue calls for a new report.

For some reason my last comment did not show in full. Writer appears to work well. It is Draw that does not permit text to be added to polygons. That is definitely a regression, if confirmed. I'll check again and create a new bug.

It was Draw I tried in.

I have discovered that in Draw, I have to select the object and then click the Text icon to enter text.

I was expecting to just double click on the object to enter text as in Writer. This was using Linx Mint 17.1.

Hmm.. double-clicking in Draw worked for me on Ubuntu & Windows.
