Created attachment 125446 [details] Video showing faulty selection highlighting and UI falling apart After working for a few minutes in IMPRESS, usually the highlighted part of the text does not represent the selection - sometimes whole words or paragraphs are not highlighted (but not selected) or the other way round. At the same time, usually the UI starts falling apart. Watch the funny mouseover effects when hovering the mouse over the icons at the end of the video. Maybe I just upload the most psychedelic UI effects to YouTube ... Changing the slide recovers the UI for a while until it starts again. No, I don't have OpenGL or CL enable and yes it happens under Linux and a different computer as well.
At what version did you start seeing this? 5.1.2? Is it only in Impress?
Thanx for looking into this! I'm rarely using other products from the LO suite except Impress so I'm not sure. The few times that I've opened complex Writer documents I've noticed anything strange. I think I had similar effects with 5.0.2 but I switched too quickly to 5.1.x due to horrible crashes to remember. I had some problems with not being able to select text in 4.3.7 but not with the UI. The graphic controllers in both computers are integrated ones, Intel HD 4600 (i7) in my desktop computer (Win7 64b) and something ("3rd gen."?) integrated into an i3 core in my laptop (Linux Mint 17.3).
Does this happen with any Impress file or only with a particular one? Ie. can you reproduce it with a new file? It might be interesting to try a very fresh master build to see, if the problem still appears: http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/Win-x86_64@62-TDF/current/ http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/Linux-rpm_deb-x86_64@70-TDF/current/ https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel
Yes, this happens with all files. I could try though to start with a new, fresh file - most of the time I just copy the basic layout and structure from an old presentation and start building new slides.
This is still set as "unconfirmed" - it's happening to me too, on 5.1.4.2 on Kubuntu 16.04, as well as on the most recent version for Windows, on Windows 10 (sorry, I'm not near that machine to confirm the version, but I just installed it a week or two ago if that helps, around 8/10-15). It's not consistent, selection highlighting works fine initially, but then at some point is starts to do what's shown in the video.
Sorry, should have mentioned...I don't get those odd tearing effects, just the problems with selection highlighting.
NEW per Bill's comments.
Bill, can you tell us what kind of GPU you have?
** Please read this message in its entirety before responding ** To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year. There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present. If you have time, please do the following: Test to see if the bug is still present on a currently supported version of LibreOffice (5.4.1 or 5.3.6 https://www.libreoffice.org/download/ If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the version of LibreOffice and your operating system, and any changes you see in the bug behavior If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a short comment that includes your version of LibreOffice and Operating System Please DO NOT Update the version field Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker) Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case) If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to "inherited from OOo"; 4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add "regression" to keyword Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=libreoffice-qa Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!
